Verse 1 I ain’t gonna lie, this one hard for me, every time I think about it, it scars in me, like I try to move on, but it’s part of me, and I don’t even know where to start with it. They crossed lines I never thought they would, said things I still replay when I try to be good, and I wish I could forget it like I know I should, but it don’t fade away like I hoped it would. And I’ve said it before, “I’m done with them,” told myself I don’t ever wanna trust again, built walls so high I was stuck within, callin’ it protection, but I was trapped in it. It felt justified, like I had the right, to hold onto that pain every day and night, like if I let it go, I’d be losin’ the fight, like I’d be sayin’ what they did was alright. But deep down, I knew that wasn’t peace, I knew it was somethin’ that was holdin’ me, like every time I thought I was finally free, it came back around and controlled me. And I had to ask myself honestly, what’s this really doin’ to the heart in me? If I stay in this, what I’m gonna be? ‘Cause it don’t feel like the man God called me to be. I didn’t wanna hear “just forgive and move,” that felt too simple for what I went through, like people don’t get what it really do, when the pain runs deep and it sticks in you. But I started to see it ain’t about them, it’s about what I’m carryin’ deep within, and I can’t keep livin’ in this condition and say I’m walkin’ in the love I’m given. Hook So I’ll choose love anyway, even when it hurts, even when I don’t feel it, even when it burns, I don’t got the strength, but I know who does, I don’t lean on me—I trust in His love. Through God the Father, I learn how to release, through Jesus my Savior, I’m given new peace, through the Spirit that moves, I don’t stay in defeat, I’ll choose love anyway… even when it’s not easy. Verse 2 I had to learn love ain’t always soft, it don’t always feel like lettin’ things off, it don’t mean I act like it didn’t cost me something real when they crossed that line. It’s not sayin’ “it’s fine,” it’s not pretendin’, it’s not forgettin’, it’s not defendin’, it’s releasin’ the grip I kept extendin’, so it don’t keep takin’ from me again. I had to realize I can step away, I don’t gotta stay in the same old place, I don’t gotta open every door again, I can still walk wise and not hold the pain. That changed it for me, I ain’t gonna lie, I thought forgiveness meant I had to comply, but it’s deeper than that, it’s a heart realigned, not a forced connection, but a freed-up mind. And I couldn’t do it on my own strength, I tried that already, it don’t sustain, I kept goin’ in circles, stuck in the same cycle of anger I couldn’t contain. That’s when I brought it straight to God, no filter, no mask, just real and raw, said, “I can’t do this, I’m at a loss,” and that’s when I felt somethin’ start to unlock. Through Jesus Christ, I saw what it meant, He forgave in a way I can’t comprehend, in the middle of pain, in the middle of sin, He still chose love, not holdin’ it in. And I’m sittin’ here stuck on what they did to me, while He gave His life just to set me free, that perspective right there hit differently, it broke somethin’ open inside of me. Through the Spirit I’m led when I don’t feel right, when I’m tempted to go back and hold that tight, He reminds me again it’s not my fight, I just gotta release it and walk in the light. And God the Father don’t ask me to fake, He knows it’s real, He knows what it takes, He just asks me to trust Him step by step, and let Him do what I can’t.
