NARRATION ONLY — SPOKEN WORD — DO NOT SING [Intro | low, barely-there tone | restrained | space] When people hear about relapse, they often ask the same question. Why would someone go back when things were finally getting better? [Pause] But from the inside, it makes sense. [Pause] If you stop drinking, but nothing else changes… the stress is still there. The fear is still there. The old wounds are still there. [Pause] You haven’t learned new ways to cope. You haven’t learned how to sit with pain, or disappointment, or loneliness. [Pause] So when life gets hard again — and it always does — your mind reaches for the only thing that ever worked. [Pause] For me, that was alcohol. I learned that very early. It was how I escaped. How I calmed myself. How I survived. [Pause] Sobriety didn’t erase that learning. It just took the substance away. [Pause] And addiction doesn’t disappear when you stop. It waits. It watches. It learns your patterns. [Pause] It knows when you’re tired. When you’re overwhelmed. When you’re alone. [Pause] And eventually, it speaks up. [Pause] Not loudly. Not urgently. It says things that sound reasonable. [Pause] You’re doing better now. Enough time has passed. You’ve proven you can stop. What harm could one drink do? [Long pause] That’s the trap. Because for some of us, one is never one. [Pause] It’s not about the drink. It’s about what the drink wakes up. [Pause] The old pathways. The old promises. The old surrender. [Pause] And once the door is open again, it doesn’t need to force its way in. [Pause] That’s when it moves. [Outro | tone drops | silence holds]
