📖There are tons of stories involving time machines, but a lot of them seem to be about traveling to the past or future for some specific reason. So I started wondering what I’d actually do if I could just jump back and forth through time depending on how I felt that day, and that’s basically where this song came from. While I was making it, I did start to wonder if some parts of the lyrics felt a little similar to the movie About Time. But if I remember right, the time travel in that movie is still mostly driven by a purpose—there’s usually something the main character wants to do or change—so I felt like this song was coming from a slightly different angle and decided to finish it as it was. About Time is also a really great movie, so if you haven’t seen it yet, definitely check it out sometime! 🎵English lyrics follow the Japanese version. タイムマシン飛ばして あなたに会いに行く 何度でも どこへでも すべてのあなたを全部知りたいの 卓球で勝ったあの日のあなた 話したいこと全部持って行くの クソガキに蹴られて泣くあなた 知らないふりして隣に座るわ とことん愛してみせる どのあなたも 黙ったままで話さないあなた 聞いてるふりだけ上手くなりました 私より友達が大事なら 友達のいない日に会いに行きます 前からそうだと言い張って 憎たらしく笑うから つぶらな瞳の十二歳まで この目で確かめに行くの ムカついたら 中年のあなたのおなかをツマンで帰るわ 笑いたくなったら ボケが神ってた京都の修学旅行へ あなたの魅力がボケたら 初めてキスしたあの小屋へ 前世も来世も あなたの裏からこんにちは 私を一番にしてくれないなら 一番だったあなたに会えばいい それでも今日は会いたくなくて ひとつ隣の異次元へ行きます どの時代にも行きたくない夜 一番遠いあなたを思い出した タイムマシン飛ばして 最後のあなたに会いに行く 私の名前を忘れていたら 耳元で念仏唱えるわ 涙もろいじいさんなら まぶしい二十代を見せに行く 歩けなくなったら 走れた運動会へ連れて行く 大事なものを忘れたら 私を好きになった日に戻る あの世もこの世も あなたを見つけてみせる タイムマシン飛ばして 今日のあなたに会いに行く 黒歴史まで全部見たけど またあなたを選び直すわ --- I’ll fire up the time machine and come see you Again and again, wherever you are—I want to know every single version of you I’ll go see the you from the day you won that ping-pong match, carrying everything I want to tell you I’ll sit beside the you who’s crying after some brat kicked you, pretending I didn’t notice I’ll love every version of you, all the way You sit there in silence, saying nothing—you’ve only gotten better at pretending to listen If your friends matter more than me, I’ll visit you on a day when none of them are around You swear you’ve always been that way, flashing me that smug little grin So I’m going back to see twelve-year-old you and those round little eyes for myself When you get on my nerves, I’ll pinch the belly of middle-aged you and head home When I need a laugh, I’m off to that Kyoto school trip where your jokes were absolutely legendary When your charm starts going blurry, I’ll go back to that little cabin where we first kissed Past life, next life—I’ll still pop up from behind you and say hello If you won’t put me first, I’ll just go see the version of you who did Even so, I don’t feel like seeing you today, so I’m heading to the next dimension over On nights when I don’t want to visit any era at all I remember the version of you farthest away I’ll fire up the time machine and go see you at the very end If you’ve forgotten my name, I’ll chant prayers right into your ear If you’ve turned into a sentimental old man, I’ll show you your dazzling twenties If you can’t walk anymore, I’ll take you back to the school sports day when you could still run If you forget what matters most, I’ll return to the day you fell in love with me In this world or the next, I’ll find you I’ll fire up the time machine and come see you today I’ve seen every last piece of your embarrassing past—and I’d still choose you all over again
