Context: Frau Holle is a figure from German folklore, best known from the Brothers Grimm tale. In the story she’s an old woman who lives above the clouds and controls the weather by shaking her feather beds—when she shakes them, snow falls onto the world below. I made a modern reinterpretation of her in a song. Instead of snow, she drops money, and the whole track is about wealth, fairness, and how things get distributed from “above” to “below.” Englisch Translation: Frau Holle, Frau Holle, she’s shaking out her feather beds. Frau Holle, Frau Holle, she’s shaking out her feather beds. Uh, the bundles burst, too heavy for my pockets, my sweats all swollen up like money-stuffed mattresses. I throw the pillows out the window, let the bills go flying — like Frau Holle, tonight everyone gets something. Next round’s on me, I can afford the shots, who earns while sleeping? I’m the opposite of most. No VIP for me, I don’t need their guest list — one quick shake of the pillows and you’ll see what’s real. The bounce won’t stay contained, louder every second. The whole room gets hotter, hotter, breathing heavy. Every eye on me, I’ve got what you’re after — look up at the sky, ’cause I’m about to make it snow like— Frau Holle, Frau Holle, she’s shaking out her feather beds — bright white snow comes falling out. Da-da-da. Frau Holle, Frau Holle, so many flakes without a count — so many falling all at once. Frau Holle, Frau Holle, she’s shaking out her feather beds. Frau Holle, Frau Holle, she’s shaking out her feather beds. Frau Holle, Frau Holle, she’s shaking out her feather beds. Frau Holle, Frau Holle, she’s shaking out her feather beds. They say, “Don’t go so hard — you’ll end up missing something.” Why save it? I share — that just feels twice as fun. And sure, I throw you snowflakes, not the world that I build. Bass in my chest — I add a little color to the grey. From top to bottom — I let it snow down, so everyone gets something — that’s how it should be, huh? Raise your glass — why so tense? Just dance, ’cause Miss Holle’s playing funk tonight. She looks out from her little house — and sees the world so shining bright. Heb dein Glas, warum so verkrampft? Just dance, denn Miss Holle spielt heut’ Funk.
