TRANSMISSION 09 — SOFT IGNITION

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

On EMBRIS's world a fire is not an event. It is an inheritance.

Something begins to be warm. Nobody remarks on it. A generation later a grandchild puts a hand near it and understands that a decision was made long before anyone currently alive was consulted.

They regard flame as impatient — a thing that skipped the working out — and EMBRIS has never in its existence done anything quickly, including arriving, including leaving, including the encounter that is happening now and has in some sense been happening for a while already.

EMBRIS was already warming when the carpet arrived. It has not started and will not finish. The smoke rises steadily from the shoulders throughout. Nobody mentions it.

NOMAD lay full length in front of the embers, belly to the warmth, and did not move for the length of the track. This was correct.

When the track ends the glow has not changed, which is either reassuring or the single most patient thing on the album.
