We left the house of bondage Under cover of the night The chains were left behind us We walked into the light But Pharaoh heard the silence And gathered up his host The sound of wheels behind us The sea before us Before us, the waters Behind us, the sword No road beneath our feet No refuge from the storm And the people cried to Moses, “Were there no graves in Egypt? Why have you brought us to this place To perish in the wilderness?” Do not be afraid. Stand firm. And see the salvation of Yahweh. Yahweh will fight for you. You need only be still. Then Yahweh said, “Why do you cry to Me? Lift up your staff And stretch your hand across the sea.” The waters heard the command The wind began to rise All through the night it thundered Beneath the burning sky The sea began to tremble The deep began to move A path appeared before us Where no path ever stood DRY GROUND THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE SEA DRY GROUND YAHWEH HAS MADE A WAY DRY GROUND WITH THE WATERS ON EACH SIDE DRY GROUND AND YAHWEH IS OUR GUIDE Water stood like walls around us Darkness on the deep Children walked between them While the sea was held asleep The pillar went before us The pillar guarded our rear The God who broke our chains Had brought us safely here Then Pharaoh saw the pathway And followed with his host Chariots filled the passage The armies drew in close The wheels began to falter The chariots lost their way And Egypt knew the battle Belonged to God that day Stretch out your hand over the sea. The waters turned around them The walls came crashing down The sea returned to silence And Pharaoh's host was drowned Not by the strength of Israel Not by the sword of man Yahweh Himself had fought for us Yahweh Himself had made the way DRY GROUND THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE SEA DRY GROUND YAHWEH HAS MADE A WAY DRY GROUND WITH THE WATERS ON EACH SIDE DRY GROUND AND YAHWEH IS OUR GUIDE Who is like You, Yahweh? Majestic in holiness Fearful in praises Working wonders The people who were slaves Now stood upon the shore And what they could not do themselves Their God had done for them DRY GROUND WHERE THERE WAS NO WAY THROUGH DRY GROUND YAHWEH HAS MADE A WAY DRY GROUND THE SEA COULD NOT PREVAIL DRY GROUND YAHWEH HAS NEVER FAILED Yahweh will fight for you. You need only be still.
