Verse 1 The tones drop hard in the middle of the night, Red lights cutting through the darkness like a knife. Putting on my gear, in the apparatus bay, Another call for help before the starting day. Years have come and gone, but the mission stays the same, Serving Montgomery County in His holy name. From burning homes to highways where the broken cry, I've seen God's faithful hand every single time. Pre-Chorus When fear comes rushing in like a flood downstream, I hold on to a promise stronger than a beam. Chorus "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you," Those words have carried me when the skies weren't blue. "And through the rivers, they will not overflow you," Lord, You've proved it true. Through the fire and the rain, through the darkest night, Your presence is my refuge and my guiding light. "When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned," Isaiah Forty-Three, verse Two— That's the promise I've learned. Verse 2 Swiftwater rescue on a storm-filled day, Potomac rising high and sweeping lives away. Throw bag in my hand, boat pointed to the tide, Praying for the strength to bring somebody home alive. The current tries to take us, the river starts to roar, But I've felt the peace of heaven everyday a little more. Every rescue tells a story, every life is a gift, And every wave reminds me who provides the lift. Pre-Chorus When the waters rise higher and the current gets loud, I hear the voice of God speaking from the cloud. Bridge I've stood in smoke-filled hallways, I've heard the mayday call. I've watched brave brothers answer, Ready to give their all. I've knelt beside the broken, I've carried loss and pain, But the God who rules the earth, With me always, is my gain. Instrumental Break Final Chorus "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you," Through every rescue, Lord, I've watched Your Word break through. "And through the rivers, they will not overflow you," Your faithfulness is true. "When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned," Every shift and every lesson, every page I've turned. Montgomery County firefighter, servant through and through, Standing on the promise of Isaiah Forty-Three, verse Two. Outro The years may pass, the sirens fade, And someday my gear will rest. But the God who walked beside me then Will still be faithful to the test. "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you..."
