I have gone, in my mind, out that door ten thousand times. I’m gone. This time for real. So go weep and whine and wail a while, cuz I’m gone. Was always you who threatened to blow us all to Timbuktu, and I fold just to keep the peace. Now you’ve got just what you wanted: you’re released. You pushed and pushed me to the edge. You used my war wounds as a wedge. You can’t give an inch, you try to make me break my pledge. To say I’m gone, right out loud, I’m like a rooster finally crowing proud. I tried, but now I’m free. And the one most surprised from this overdue goodbye is me.
