Take Up Your Cross (Rock Anthem 9-9-26)
Verse 1 Jesus never said the road would be easy, Or every mile would be painless to walk. He said, “If any man will come after Me, Deny himself and take up his cross.” You don’t follow Him by standing still, You don’t follow Him by choosing your will. When Jesus calls, you must count the cost, Make your decision and take up your cross. Chorus It’s not accidental, It’s not coincidental, It’s a choice to do the hard thing When you hear the Savior call. It is intentional, It requires a decision: Deny yourself, lay your own will down, Take up your cross and follow Him. There will always be a cost— Take up your cross and follow Him. Verse 2 The cross isn’t trouble that came without warning, Or every burden that life puts on you. It is choosing Jesus over your own way, And doing what He has called you to do. When the crowd turns back and you stand alone, When the narrow road is the only road home, Keep your eyes on Jesus, whatever the cost, Keep moving forward and carry your cross. Verse 3 He carried His cross all the way to Calvary, For every sinner, for you and for me. No one took His life; He freely gave it— Love made the choice at Gethsemane. Now He is calling, “Come follow Me. Lose your life, and you’ll truly be free.” The way to the crown still leads through the cross; To gain Christ, nothing is ever lost. Bridge Not my will, but Thine be done. I have decided to follow the Son. No turning back, whatever the loss— I’ll follow Jesus and carry my cross. Not my will, but Thine be done. My life belongs to the Holy One. The world behind me, Christ before me— I have decided; I will follow Thee. Final Chorus It’s not accidental, It’s not coincidental, It’s a choice to do the hard thing When you hear the Savior call. It is intentional, It requires a decision: Deny yourself, lay your own will down, Take up your cross and follow Him. There will always be a cost— Take up your cross and follow Him. Outro No turning back, whatever the cost— Take up your cross And follow Him.
