--- Testing out the new persona and so I wanted to see if it would keep both sets of vocals, reference them correctly and also do a bit of a duet when it wasn't prompted at times too. Kept the music style prompt fairly similar. The very start of the song feels like the first one that I made on the "album", but then it transitions nicely. So it actually to me gives more of a cohesive vibe (or at least that's what I'm telling myself . . . lol) Song is about looking back and wishing that there were certain elements from school that you could carry over in your "real" life. Song does have some extra "quirk" to it which I really like. A fun vibe and honestly worked out much better than I expected. Nice pleasant surprise when that happens! Fingers crossed I can keep it going. Want to shake up the musical prompt a bit more with the next one so I can see how much the Persona can stretch and still work. ~David --- [Musical Introduction] [Music Build Up] [Verse 1] Alarm clock rings, but no bell to beat No one’s tellin’ me when I can eat Lunch is lonely, it’s a desk and a screen No trading snacks for a tangerine Used to walk just to wander the halls Now I pace in a cubicle stall Freedom’s cool but it’s strangely vast— Kinda miss needin’ somewhere to pass [Pre-Chorus] No syllabus, no late bell grace No “see me after class” face I thought I wanted all this space… Now I’m driftin’ place to place [Chorus] Can I keep my hall pass? Just in case I need A reason to wander when I can’t breathe No destination, just a little free From who I’m supposed to be Can I keep my hall pass? I won’t abuse Just need an excuse to move Through the noise, through the maps— Can I keep… can I keep my hall pass? [Verse 2] Recess vanished without a goodbye Now “break” means scrollin’ just to get by Used to dread what the day might bring Now I’d trade for that anything Pop quiz life and I’m unprepared No partial credit, just “hope you cared” Used to learn stuff I’d never expect Now I’m stuck in a skillset loop effect [Pre-Chorus] No group projects (okay that’s fine) But no one’s there to share the climb No random spark at 8:09… Just a calendar that eats my time [Chorus] Can I keep my hall pass? Just in case I need A reason to wander when I can’t breathe No destination, just a little free From who I’m supposed to be Can I keep my hall pass? I won’t abuse Just need an excuse to move Through the noise, through the maps— Can I keep… can I keep my hall pass? [Musical Interlude] [bouncy slap groove while Anaconda drives a beat using a metal lunchbox, pencils, and foot stomps. Ned layers bright guitar stabs; Sequel adds playful synth arpeggios that slowly melt into something more reflective.] [Bridge] [Female lead, vulnerable) We used to count the minutes down Now the minutes just… surround Every second’s mine to spend— So why’s it harder in the end? [band builds] Maybe structure wasn’t chains… Maybe it just gave us names [Breakdown → Chorus Lift] [Anaconda strips it down to lunchbox taps + heartbeat kick] [Male Vocals - half-spoken] No bells… no lines… no passes… no signs… [Final Chorus] Can I keep my hall pass? Not to escape— Just to remember how it felt that way When gettin’ lost was kinda okay And every door might change your day Can I keep my hall pass? Not to go back— Just a little thread I don’t wanna lack In a world so fast, so vast— Let me keep… let me keep my hall pass [Outro] No bell rings, no one calls my name But I still pause in the doorway the same [soft — Female harmonizing] Half expectin’ someone to say… “Where you headed today?” [Male Gentle] Just… out for a walk [faint lunchbox tap… tap… tap… fades out] [Musical Ending]
