Nothing But Shadows
I knew nothing but shadows and I thought them to be real. There is something at work in my soul which I do not understand. The gloomy vapor from the spirit flies, (and views of gaiety and gladness rise.) Round and round the ghosts of beauty glide, (and haunt the places where their honor died.) At night the fog was thick and full of light, (And sometimes voices.) Am I walking away from something I should be running away from? (Is there someone inside you?) When shall we meet again? In thunder, lightning, or in rain? Everybody is a book of blood; (wherever we’re opened, we’re red.) RED I’m scared to close my eyes, (I’m scared to open them.) I'm gonna die out here. They look exactly like us. (They think like us.) They know where we are. (We need to move and keep moving.) They won’t stop until they kill us ... (or we kill them.) Love will have its sacrifices. (No sacrifice without blood.) (I knew nothing but shadows and I thought them to be real.) There is something at work in my soul which I do not understand. (I do not understand.) A deep sleep falls upon me (— a sleep like that of death.) Now, I sink into the floor. (Sink into the floor.)
