The Shadow on the Hill

[Verse 1] There was a shadow upon the hill When the evening sky burned gold Some say it was ONLY a passing cloud Some say a tale still told [Verse 2] The valley fell as still as stone No bird remained in flight We watched the shadow cross the hills And blot the evening light [Verse 3] He lowered down his mighty head And breathed the summer air He searched the wind around us all And found us standing there [Verse 4] No one spoke a single word No one dared to move We stood beneath those ancient eyes Not knowing what he'd choose [Verse 5] The mountain wind grew soft and still The waiting silence broke He lowered down a mighty wing And not a word was spoke Before the grown folk found their voice Before the moment passed A little girl had crossed the span And reached his neck at last [Joyous cry] Hey! [Excited shout] [Extended Instrumental] [Chorus] Hey, ride on, ride on Where the mountain rivers run Ride on, ride on Beneath the fire and sun Hey, ride on, ride on Above the clouds so high Ride on, ride on Beneath the endless sky
