Verse 1: At the king's gate he would sit, A faithful servant there, Watching over Esther's life, With diligent care. He overheard a plot one day, Two guards would kill the king, He told Esther, she told Xerxes, And they were hanged for their scheming. Chorus: The faithful guardian, standing strong, When evil came to call, He would not bow to Haman's pride, He would not bend at all. "Do not think you'll escape," he warned, "Relief will come somehow, But who knows if for such a time, You've come to where you are now." Verse 2: Haman passed by every day, And everyone would bow, But Mordecai remained upright, He'd not break his vow. Haman's rage burned hot within, "I'll kill them all," he swore, He built a gallows seventy-five feet high, For Mordecai and more. Chorus: The faithful guardian, standing strong, When evil came to call, He would not bow to Haman's pride, He would not bend at all. "Do not think you'll escape," he warned, "Relief will come somehow, But who knows if for such a time, You've come to where you are now." Bridge: That night the king could not sleep, He read the record book, "What honor did we give Mordecai, For the plot he overtook?" "Nothing has been done," they said, And Haman entered in, "What should be done for one I honor?" Pride would be his sin. Final Chorus: The faithful guardian, standing strong, When evil came to call, He would not bow to Haman's pride, He would not bend at all. Dressed in royal robes that day, Led through the city square, Haman had to proclaim his honor, The irony laid bare. The faithful guardian rose to power, Second to the king, And wrote the decree to save his people, Let all the nations sing.
