Age of Pisces

Jung observes that the fish (Ichthys, Ιχθυς) became an early Christian symbol for Christ, formed as an acronym for “Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior.”

The rise of Christianity coincides precisely with the sun’s precession into the constellation Pisces at the start of the common era. (Note: I do not know if this shift was even known by Christians at the time.)

The Pisces constellation itself shows two fishes swimming in opposite directions, which Jung identifies as the perfect symbolic image for the psychic situation of the entire Christian age: the unresolved tension between opposites—Christ and Antichrist, spirit and matter, light and darkness—that has defined the collective psyche for two thousand years.

[Verse 1]
Two silver fish
Carve the old sea
One surges up
Chasin' the open sky
The other plunges
Deep where secrets lie
Bound together
In the turnin' tide

[Prechorus]
Trapped in
Opposin' sway

[Chorus 1]
Pisces strainin'
As the cosmos turns
Pisces strainin'
As the cosmos turns

This is the age
The opposites burn
This is the age
The opposites burn

[1 bar interlude]

[Verse 2]
For two thousand years
We’ve been pulled apart
Between the sacred call
And the beast of clay
The force's constant
The conflict never rests
This is the current
That defines our human test

[Bridge]
The stars keep shiftin'
The long cycle starts to crack
Pisces strainin'
As the old bonds start to slack
What we divided
Longs to reunite
Under the weight
The tension's gonna
Snap!

[Instrumental]

[Chorus 2]
Pisces strainin'
As the cosmos turns
Pisces strainin'
As the cosmos turns

This is the age
The opposites burn
This is the age
The opposites burn

Pisces strainin'
As the cosmos turns
Pisces strainin'
As the cosmos turns

This is the age
The opposites burn
This is the age
The opposites burn

[Postchorus]
Swimmin' blind
In the grindin' wheel
The age of opposites
Starts to peel
