Where the light gets in

I left the city with its tired skyline Traded all that concrete for a crooked pine Took the long road where the forest starts To thin Chasing quiet places where the light gets in Found a dirt path winding through the woods Where the air rembers how to feel good Nothing here to prove and no one keeping score Just my boots and all the weight I wore And the warm rain came without a warning sound Turned the dust to gold on the beaten ground Down in the valley where the river bends Past the hills that know where my childhood ends I let the skyline fade green and grey And the forest teach me how to stay in the woods. I heard my own voice clear Say you don't have to run from here Warm rain on my face washing old lines clean Learning how to breathe in between Morning breaks slow over distant hills Same ones I used to climb to feel my will Sat there once and swore I'd never look back Now I'm looking down at the very same track Different eyes, same ground same me Just a little less scared of what could be Every step back here feels like a step home Even when u walk it alone You can keep your skyline full of wires and smoke I'll take the woods that taught this heart how it broke And how it healed when the warm rain fell On the valley that kept my secrets well Down in the valley where river bends Past the hills that know where my childhood ends I let the skyline fade to green to grey And the forest teach me how to stay In the woods I heard my own voice clear Say you don't have to run from here Warm rain on my face, washing old lines clean Finally learning how to breathe in between Forest, valley, woods, warm rain, hills and skyline, I'll take the pain if it brings me back to this place again...
