The countdown hums in quiet rooms Old dreams packed like carry-ons Your shadow lingers in the glass As engines ask if this will last We learned to speak in borrowed time Through static, silence, data lines No promise breaks, no feeling bends Just distance learning how to end There’s a moon between us now Not a wall, not a vow It pulls us close, it pulls us far Still we circle who we are There’s a moon between us still Bending love against our will Far apart, but tethered true Every orbit leads to you White rockets cut the velvet sky Leaving Earth on soft goodbye Your name stays warm inside my chest As gravity forgets the rest I don’t need your hand right here I feel you when the stars appear What we are won’t drift apart It’s coded deep in who we are There’s a moon between us now Not a wall, not a vow It pulls us close, it pulls us far Still we circle who we are There’s a moon between us still Bending love against our will Far apart, but tethered true Every orbit leads to you Mars waits quiet, red and wide Not a place for us to hide Every mile we leave behind Tests the strength of heart and mind There’s a moon between us here Turning absence into near Not goodbye, not overdue Just the space we travel through There’s a moon between us still Proof that distance never will Break the shape of what we knew Every orbit leads to you When the signal fades from view I still feel aligned with you
