He told her that she’d changed too much, Yet he never looked inside. He’s the one with shifting moods, So she learned how to hide. He kept askin’ why the fire Don’t burn like it used to– But acted like she owed him, So of course she would refuse. He told ‘em that they sounded harsh With the words they threw around. But he brought all the ammo To that sharp-tongued battleground. They learned the way a storm rolls in By how he’d lose his cool. Now they’re speakin’ just like him, And he feels like a fool. If you want a seed to grow, You don’t curse the dirt it’s in. You learn to work the soil Patiently, with calloused skin. It ain’t them that needs the changin’, It’s how he plants and tends. He’s been waitin’ on the weather When he should’ve been the wind. He doesn’t always practice What he’s always proud to preach. And deep down even he knows It’s a lousy way to teach. His pride fogs up his vision, But he sees the road ain’t right. And fearing he’s the problem Is what keeps him up at night. If you want a seed to grow, You don’t curse the dirt it’s in. You learn to work the soil Patiently, with calloused skin. It ain’t them that needs the changin’, It’s how he plants and tends. He’s been waitin’ on the weather When he should’ve been the wind. Should’ve been the wind... Yeah, he should’ve been the wind... Should’ve been— The wind. He thought he had to hold the line To prove that he was strong. But growth don’t come from darkness, And his wins won’t keep ‘em warm. He found faults in everyone While hidin’ from the truth— The hardest work he’s ever done Was changin’ point of view. Because the problem here is you. Yeah– The problem here is you!! If you want your seeds to grow, You can’t curse the dirt they’re in. You gotta work the soil Patiently, with calloused skin. It ain’t them that needs the changin’, It’s how you plant and tend. You’ve been waitin’ on the weather Now you can choose to be the wind. Choose to be the wind ... Choose to be the wind ... The wind... (the wind...) Yeah, you can choose to be the wind.
