Beyond the iron gates Past the cracked stone road Rows of names stand silent Beneath the earth below The rich and poor sleep side by side No matter who they were The cemetery keeps them all Beneath the dirt and firs There is the good and the evil The subservient and successful Heroes and housewives The rude and respectful But here they're all equal At the foot of their stone Some bigger than others They now share the same home Some played by the rules Others acted as fools While others served and taught Unlike those that stole and got caught They all shared the same fate Eventual eternal rest Some lived life to the fullest Some many years less By the daylight The old trees gently sway Fresh flowers on the granite As visitors kneel and pray Names carved deep in stone Birth and death dates side by side Etched in lines that sum a lifetime From first breath till they died But after midnight The cold wind starts to rise Moonlight paints the granite Beneath those sleepless skies The Cemetery All walks of life All now must share Eternal days and nights The Cemetery No throne survives Only names upon the granite Where every story lies Some arrived with fortune Some never owned a thing Some wore crowns of glory Some never heard bells ring Now the rain falls just the same Across each weathered name And every road that led them here Still ended all the same The Cemetery The final resting place For every soul that walked this earth No matter creed or face The Cemetery Beyond the iron gate Where birth and death are carved in stone And time decides the date The old trees still keep watch As seasons come and go And beneath the silent granite Lie the lives we used to know
