Title: “The Stone Goes Down” [Low Bass Drone] Mmm… ah… [Lead Solo] I took the stone [Two Voices] before I knew its name. [Lead Solo] I held it close [Three Voices] and called it mine. [Lead Solo] It warmed in my hands [Full Chorus] like an old command. [Lead Solo] It darkened my sleep [Full Chorus] and bent my spine. [Full Chorus] Set it down. Set it down. The hand lets go. The stone goes down. Set it down. Set it down. The ground receives what the body found. [Lead Solo] It wore my father’s silence. [Two Voices] Father’s silence. [Lead Solo] It wore my mother’s eyes. [Three Voices] Mother’s eyes. [Lead Solo] It sat at the table [Full Chorus] between every word. [Lead Solo] It answered first [Full Chorus] when I tried to rise. [Full Chorus, wider harmony] Set it down. Set it down. The hand lets go. The stone goes down. Set it down. Set it down. The ground receives what the body found. [Lead Solo] I fed it years. [Two Voices] Years. [Lead Solo] I gave it breath. [Three Voices] Breath. [Lead Solo] I made it a house [Full Chorus] inside my chest. [Lead Solo] It knew my voice. [Two Voices] My voice. [Lead Solo] It knew my face. [Three Voices] My face. [Lead Solo] It knew the door [Full Chorus] to every place. [Full Chorus, darker] Set it down. Set it down. The hand lets go. The stone goes down. Set it down. Set it down. The ground receives what the body found. [Overlapping Voices, soft but rhythmic] Not my name. Not my breath. Not my blood. Not my debt. Not my road. Not my vow. Not my stone. Not now. [Lead Solo] When it touched the earth, [Two Voices] touched the earth, [Lead Solo] no thunder came. [Three Voices] No thunder came. [Lead Solo] The sky did not open. [Full Chorus] No sky opened. [Lead Solo] No one called my name. [Full Chorus] No one called my name. [Lead Solo] Only my shoulders [Two Voices] remembered air. [Lead Solo] Only my hands [Three Voices] found they were bare. [Full Chorus, lifted] Set it down. Set it down. The hand lets go. The stone goes down. Set it down. Set it down. The ground receives what the body found. [Lead Solo, quiet] I stood without it. [Two Voices] Without it. [Lead Solo] I stood still. [Three Voices] Stood still. [Lead Solo] The world did not end. [Full Chorus] The world did not end. [Lead Solo] The morning filled [Full Chorus] the open hand. [Final Full Chorus, broad Pays Basque harmony] Set it down. Set it down. The hand lets go. The stone goes down. Set it down. Set it down. The ground receives what the body found. [Final Unison, soft] The stone goes down.
