Crown Without Justice

[Intro] [low choir Unison] We watched the shepherd Rise to a throne Oil on his forehead Fire in his songs [Verse 1] [spoken over rhythm Company] We saw you David Harps in your hand Giants falling Enemies fleeing like sand You sang of justice Scattered like rain You swore the poor Would never beg in shame [Psalm 72 echo Call-and-response] [solo voice] "Judge with righteousness" [company] Did you? [solo] "Bring peace to the weak" [company] Where were you? [Chorus] [full company Urgent] Crown without justice Throne with stained hands You wrote the promise Then buried it in the sand Blessing for nations That’s what you swore But you closed your mouth When blood cried from the floor [Verse 2] [low vocal register] Amnon in the palace Sister in the dark She tore her robe You turned from her scars Tamar’s ashes In her hair like a crown You heard the story But you never sat down [sharp Chanted] "Defend the afflicted" We heard you sing "Crush the oppressor" But you spared your king You loved your son More than the law So the weak stayed weak And the strong stayed raw [Chorus] [Verse 3] [company Heavier] Absalom burning Fields for a word Years of silence Justice deferred He took the gates Handed out smiles Stole their hearts On the strength of your trial [Psalm 89 echo] [solo voice Lament] "Faithful love will stand" [company] Where is it? [solo] "David’s line by My hand" [company] Can you feel it split? You wore the covenant Like a royal robe But left your own house Unrebuked Exposed [Bridge] [whispered vocals Layered] We remember the oath We remember the song We remember the poor You left waiting too long [company Rising] If kings forget The cries of the small The Lord of hosts Will measure them all [Chorus] [Outro] [soft Choral] Shepherd of Israel Stumbled in pride Yet mercy moves On the far side of your life We sing the record We sing the fall So every crown after Will tremble at the call
