ROY: Ah Steve, how’re you doing today? Congrats on the role, you’ll be great, I must say! STEVE: Thanks for the chance, it’s really a gift, But there’s something I’d like to discuss, a little shift. ROY: Oh really? Well, what can I do? What’s on your mind, is there something askew? STEVE: I’ve been thinking it through, and I’m not quite sure, If I can play the part opposite Lauren anymore. ROY: Oh really? Is there something wrong with her? Is there an issue I didn’t infer? STEVE: Oh no, it’s not her fault at all, you see, But I’d be more comfortable if Suzy were with me. ROY: Well, I’m sorry Steve, but Lauren was the best, She nailed the audition, passed every test. Suzy didn’t quite make the same impression, The panel agreed, it wasn’t just my discretion. STEVE: But I don’t know if I can keep this role, It’s a bit uncomfortable, it’s taking a toll. ROY: You’re the only one for this part, we can’t replace, We don’t have another with your talent and grace. STEVE: So the show can’t happen without me here? Then cast Suzy, and the way forward is clear. ROY: I can’t just change things, that wouldn’t be right, Lauren earned that role, she’s shining bright. Can you imagine the chaos it would create? Do you think that’s a reputation we should cultivate? STEVE: I get it, Roy, I really do, But Suzy fits the part, and I trust her too. ROY: I know you care about the society’s name, And Lauren’s casting won’t bring us shame. You’ve got a choice, stay or go, that’s clear, But I’d rather you stay, I hold you dear. STEVE: Well, maybe we could tweak a line or two, Cut the romance out, you know, to keep it cool? ROY: Fine, if that’s what it takes to keep you in, We’ll make those changes, you win. (ENDING) ROY: Bloody hell, what a day it’s been... [Piano instrumental]
