(Yodel intro) We don’t really know who anyone really is Until we’ve lived a lifetime in their company And even then there are things that we discover Like that fine wine in Tuscany Which brings me to the point of this tale Long story short About a man from the history of sail With whaling ancestors from Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket in the U S of A This fella was a champion in every way (Banjo bridge) Everyone was given a nickname whether they liked it or not Well Michael John Thompson with a muscular back picked up the moniker Humpty Mick as his lot In every way on every day Humpty Was a gentleman Caring and kind No better you’d find On any day in every way So let’s tell the story Of a man and his glory Humpty Mick Was a waterman A man with salt water in his veins Born to the elements of sun wind and rains He Bought the Coral Princess A glass bottom boat He loved her, maintained her And kept her afloat For thirty years he took tourists upon the blue lagoon And sometimes with friends a booze cruise with a bright full moon (Banjo and yodel bridge) He loved girls in bikinis And was easily led Until the day he met his future, his lovely wife Deb She was the love of his life His trouble and strife Humpty went about creating an Island love nest And cut down the Pine Trees With vigour and zest He moved out the old sailors rest A new home by the sea where he wanted to be Humpty created some beautiful songs About Lord Howe We still hear them now Songs with stories that touched our hearts And he rode an old blue Honda that would always start He particularly loved eating a nice piece of fish But woe betide anyone who caught a coral trout dish As a cattle farmer he knew a little But off they went to the mainland with two kids and future brittle He and Deb forged a farm and got horses to ride arm in arm He loved riding old Barbara with lucky the dog As his life took a turn his light faded and fogged and he was brought back to keep under a mountain rose to sleep Yes he is gone Yet His spirit lives on In memory and song (Yoel outtro)
