Under Threat of Peace

[ We are told forever that "We are Working Towards Peace" but all we get is War and Division. War is a Big Business that needs to be Bankrupt. We cannot survive under these conditions. With this song, I am trying to expose (in my estimation) what the underlying problem is.] [Verse 1] The fields lie bare, the sky is wide But someone’s planting fear inside A suit behind a mirrored door Knows stillness won’t sell anymore They say the world is full of foes But peace, my friend — that's how it goes Is just too quiet for the kings Who only eat when the siren sings [Chorus 1 emotional] We are living under threat of peace Where calm is a crime, and wars released They say the calm’s too sharp to trust That silence turns the steel to rust But maybe love is the true disease When you're living under threat of peace [Verse 2] There’s shadow puppets on the wall And every empire fears the fall They teach the children to divide To build their fences deep inside And somewhere out beyond the smoke A song begins, voices awoke But every time it starts to grow They find a match, and let it go [Chorus 2, stronger with orchestration] We are living under threat of peace Where calm's a crime that won’t appease They say the stillness brings decline That hope is soft, and truth’s a line But maybe love’s the one release We have under the threat of peace [Short solo or interlude] [Bridge, War drums fade to songs rhythm] One day the drums will lose their beat And boots will plant where roots grow deep A whisper's louder than it seems It builds in silence, carries dreams Not every war is fought with guns Some are lost when the talking’s done [Final Chorus] We are living under threat of peace Where they fear the day the wars might cease But there’s a fire that doesn’t burn A tide of hearts that won’t return And though they choke the olive trees They can't unwrite what the spirit sees
