📖At first, I thought about turning a love letter straight into a song, but after looking into it, I found that there were already quite a few songs like that. So I thought, why not take it a little further and make it a marriage proposal instead? That’s basically where this song started. As I kept playing around with the idea, I put together the very formal-sounding “Dear you” with the very direct “please marry me,” and for some reason the combination felt ridiculously powerful. That was when my imagination really started running with it (lol). The song is told from a man’s point of view, but I didn’t want it to be only about what he wants or why he wants to marry her. I also wanted to slip in little reasons why, from her side of things, she might actually choose this guy too. Figuring out how to do that gave me a bit of a headache, but being able to enjoy that whole process is one of the things I love about making songs! 🎵English lyrics follow the Japanese version. 拝啓、結婚してください 唐揚げにはレモン派だと知っています なのに僕はキャベツに絞った 君の箸が一瞬止まりましたね 頼れる男の予定でした そのキャベツと唐揚げ 一緒に食べる君を見て 生まれて初めて肯定されました だから、結婚してください 君が笑う理由を これからも増やしたいです 任せてくださいと言いました 北がどっちか分かりません 近道ですと胸を張ったのに 同じコンビニに戻りました 地図は読めない僕ですが 君の疲れた顔は読めました 道はひとつも分からないのに ベンチだけは先に見つけたね 大丈夫ですと胸を張り 声が少し裏返りました かっこいい台詞を探すほど 大体かむか 詰まります ただし、今日だけは 逃げずにひとつだけ言います 拝啓、結婚してください 部屋が寒いって君が言ったのに 僕は冷房のボタンを押した 冷たい風が吹き抜けましたね 頼れる男の予定でした 君はそっと上着を羽織って 距離が縮まるねと微笑んだ 生まれて初めて肯定されました だから、結婚してください 君が温まる理由を これからも増やしたいです 正直に書きます 僕は立派な男ではありません 胸を張れるところを探して 三行で手が止まりました この手紙で 今までの僕らが終わるかもしれません それでも今日だけは逃げません 字が震えていますが あなたを幸せにします 拝啓、結婚してください 大雨が降るって君が言ったのに 僕は傘を家に忘れました 駅の出口で立ち往生しましたね 頼れる男の予定でした 君は鞄を頭に乗せて 映画のワンシーンみたいと駆け出した 僕の人生が名作に変わりました だから、結婚してください 君が輝く理由を これからも増やしたいです --- Dear you, please marry me I know you're a lemon-on-karaage kind of girl But I squeezed it over the cabbage instead Your chopsticks froze for a split second, didn't they I was supposed to be a reliable man But when I saw you eat that cabbage Together with the karaage I felt accepted for the first time in my life So please, marry me I want to keep giving you More reasons to smile I said, "Leave it to me" I don't even know which way north is I puffed out my chest, "This is a shortcut" And we ended up back at the same convenience store I can't read a map But I could read your tired face I didn't know a single road But I found the bench first, didn't I I puffed out my chest and said, "I'm fine" Then my voice cracked a little The harder I searched for a cool line The more I tripped over my words or choked up But today, just this once I won't run away There's one thing I have to say Dear you, please marry me You said the room was cold But I pressed the air conditioner button A cold wind blew right through us, didn't it I was supposed to be a reliable man But you gently put on your jacket And smiled, saying, "Now we're closer" I felt accepted for the first time in my life So please, marry me I want to keep giving you More reasons to feel warm Let me be honest I am not an impressive man I tried to find something I could be proud of And my hand stopped after three lines This letter Might bring everything we've had to an end Still, today, I won't run away My handwriting is shaking But I will make you happy Dear you, please marry me You said it was going to pour But I left my umbrella at home We got stuck at the station exit, didn't we I was supposed to be a reliable man But you put your bag over your head And ran off like a scene from a movie Right then, my life turned into a movie scene So please, marry me I want to keep giving you More reasons to shine
