Back in seventy-two a kid showed up at my school he wore hand me downs and holy shoes He walked around like he was invisible pushed around he just stayed quiet and miserable On rainy winter days they played dodgeball in the gym Teacher made him play even though his chance was slim The other guys made sure he was the first one out Every ball bounced off him with lots of laughs and shouts Friday at lunch he was sitting by the pond Sunny Jane gave Jimmie a smile and a nod He set there stunned without time to think Mikey and Matt shoved him into the drink One day I saw him in the library alone holding onto a rabbits foot like it was his own Seemed like Jimmie was waitin’ for his luck to change So dropped my broom and set down to widen his range Son don’t let that white rabbit’s foot keep you in a bubble When Alice chased that critter she only found trouble The rabbit only has three but he can still get around you got three but it’s keeping you down The lucky rabbits not the lucky one there’s no trick to livin’ life and love get your heart in the game and keep your feet on the ground it’s okay to lose but DON’T STAY DOWN A few days later he was walking to class Sunny Jane said hi and asked if he liked her dress Before Jimmy could open his mouth and make a sound Mikey and Matt pushed him hard to the ground Jimmie stood up and did the last thing I’d ever expect took rabbits foot out and chucked it over the fence He walked up to Mikey stared him straight in the face Whispered something quiet and Mikey fell from grace He cursed and yelled calling Jimmy some names but him and Matt were just never the same They never bothered anyone again I guess in the end Jimmy made some friends The lucky rabbit’s not the lucky one there’s no trick to livin’ life and love get your heart in the game and keep your feet on the ground it’s okay to lose but DON’T STAY DOWN Jimmy grew up a man not afraid to lose got a job as the anchor on the evening news Him and Sunny Jane had a bunch of kids They go to same school that their parents did Now I’m an old man wearing one shoe The rabbit’s foot to me is nothin new I am the white rabbit with nothin’ to gain From feeling sorry myself when I’m just not the same The lucky rabbits not the lucky one there’s no trick to livin’ life and love get your heart in the game and keep your feet on the ground it’s okay to lose but DON’T STAY DOWN
