Death Nesting - Ash To Ash, Dust To Dust
I walked the path where shadows bend, carrying names that will not mend. The earth remembers what we forget, each grave a hymn, each stone a debt. A crow took wing above the pine, its cry was sharper than the line. The spade struck root, the soil gave way, and silence weighed on the end of day. Ash to ash, dust to dust, the earth will keep what it must. Hands let go, the sorrow is deep, death is the only vow we keep. A lantern flickers, pale and low, the wind rehearses songs of woe. I lay the flowers, brittle, dry, and whispered names that will not die. The ground is heavy, but I am too, each step a prayer, each breath a rue. But still the current pulls me near, where ash and river disappear. Ash to ash, dust to dust, the earth will keep what it must. Hands let go, the sorrow is deep, death is the only vow we keep… Earth to earth, ash to ash, dust to dust
