Stephen Tranter’s Ghosts of the Louvre by GM Jon

V5

The gendarmes were stunned They were in a daze How could this happen At the musee francaise? They’d stolen the jewels A national disgrace The Directeur was stumped She had oeuf on her face The trail was cold There was much apprehension Perhaps it was time For divine intervention So the ghosts of the Louvre Convened to unearth How this ghastly manoeuvre Had occurred on their turf But how to catch the burglars at large? They needed safe hands! So, Da Vinci took charge He took the chair Though it slipped through his hands And he hung in the air While he made his demands Hey, Vincent Van Gogh! Lend me your ear It’s no time to go wobbly There’s a crisis down ‘ere Monet and Manet Will they get a confession? ‘Not very likely But that just our impression’ ‘Should I call La Joconde? Do we need to phone her?’ ‘What on earth is the point, …… She’s such a Mona’ Where’s Salvador Dali? ‘He’s out with Einstein We asked for their help But they can’t find the time’. Poor Marc Chagal Was reduced to tears “Zere’s been nothing like zis For a hundred years!’ Oi! Michelangelo! Come down from the ceiling Can you throw some light On who’s doing the stealing? ‘Yes, the little guy’s done A twenty point check To make doubly sure Not to-lose-le-trek.’ Yes, They pulled together the clues they’d gleaned The day the ghosts Of the Louvre convened Then word came through The ghouls were impressed The gendarmes had done it They’d made an arrest. No more to be done Da Vinci called time It was left to Rothko To draw the line The spirits were high There was no more to say They wrapped up the gig And faded away... The head of security that night had a dream He was restless and clammy Just before ‘alloween It was a ghostly warning on behalf of the nation For the next century He’d be on probation.
