Why do the nations rage in pride, their schemes and plots in vain collide? The kings of earth take up their stand; the rulers join with heart and hand, Against the Lord, His Holy One: “Let’s break their bonds, their cords undone.” He who in heaven sits will laugh; the Lord will scorn their feeble craft. Then in His anger, He will speak, and terrify the proud and weak: “I’ve set My King on Zion’s hill; My holy mountain bears My will.” The Lord declares His firm decree: “You are My Son, beloved by Me. Today I call You: born divine; the nations’ rule is Yours to sign. Ask Me, and I will make them Yours, from distant lands to ocean shores. With iron scepter You shall lead, and shatter them like broken reed. Like pots of clay they’ll break apart, beneath Your strength, Your ruling heart.” Now, kings, be wise—your lesson learn; you judges of the earth, return. Serve God with fear, rejoice in awe; with trembling, bow before His law. Kiss now the Son, lest wrath consume; He blazes fierce, and none resume. But blessed are those who rest in grace, and find their refuge in His face.
