[Intro] Shambala wore a garden face White stone, fountains, open gates You said the city knew our names Before the gold swallowed the place [Verse 1] We drank clear water from the square While merchants weighed the breath of prayer Then iron towers split the blue And every promise charged its due [Pre-Chorus] The drums fall out, the stones go still A cold wind climbs the temple hill You take my hand; the bells turn black Something below is calling back [Chorus] Shambala, what have they done? Paradise rots beneath the sun A city of greed with a demon’s grin Where love once lived, the dark walks in I hear your name through the ruined air I’m still alive, I’m still down there [Verse 2] The market kings wore borrowed skin Their polished smiles concealed the sin We watched the old gardens disappear As hungry mouths replaced the years [Pre-Chorus] No beat, no breath, just the warning hum The buried gates begin to drum You take my hand; I bare my teeth And wake the thing beneath the street [Chorus] Shambala, what have they done? Paradise rots beneath the sun A city of greed with a demon’s grin Where love once lived, the dark walks in I hear your name through the ruined air I’m still alive, I’m still down there [Breakdown] Greed in the altar Gold in the vein You built your heaven On somebody’s pain I rasp your name Through ash and stone This was our home This was our home [Bridge] If there’s a door beneath the flame I’ll tear it open, call you by name No throne, no lord, no teeth below Can claim the love we used to know [Final Chorus] Shambala, remember the sun The gardens, the water, the life we begun A city of greed with a demon’s grin But love left a mark they can’t bury in I hear your name through the ruined air I’m coming up; I’m still down there [Outro] Paradise of love, once! Shambala, remember us
