Far Out, Man…! (feat. Spacey Teto!)

V6

[MOVEMENT I — THE BROWNIE] [Warm psychedelic funk; Rhodes piano, rubbery bass, restrained synthetic soprano] [Spoken, perfectly composed] “One little corner.” “Oh, don’t give me that look.” “I’m Infinity. I’ll be fine.” [Softly sung] Silver plate, one chocolate square, I straighten the black rose in my hair. A curious warmth, a shimmering glow— …Why is the floor so far below? [Music wobbles; bass briefly drops out] “That’s… unusual.” “Heh. Hehehe…” “Is that my roof?” “…Oh, we’re doing this.” [MOVEMENT II — ESCAPE VELOCITY] [Sudden lift into sparkling progressive synth-rock; ascending arpeggios] There’s my street, there’s the sea, There’s the whole blue world beneath me! The Moon slips past like a paper lantern; Jupiter turns and the stars start dancing. “Saturn! Darling! Those RINGS!” [Little snort of laughter] “Hehehe—show-off!” [Chorus — bright, soaring, playful] FAR OUT, MAN! Higher than I ever planned! FAR OUT, MAN! The whole wide Earth fits in my hand! Round and round, then away I go— How far is far? I wanna know! [Odd-meter instrumental climb, synth solo; groove stretches and accelerates] [MOVEMENT III — EVERY POSSIBILITY] [Cosmic jazz-fusion, shifting meters; half-sung rambling becomes increasingly loose] “Wait… y’know what’s funny?” “I can be… almost anybody.” A college girl, late for a class, A little love note tucked into her bag. Or a pop star—like Lady Gaga or something! [Giggles] “Oh, that’d be fun.” Or a hot race queen, waving at the crowd— “VROOOOM! Hehehe! God, I look good!” All those versions, all those dreams, All the lives that people see in me. A thousand ways for one small world to sing— [Instruments suddenly thin out] “…One world.” “That’s just ONE world?” [An immense spiral emerges; guitar and synths surge] “Wait. That’s our galaxy?” “THE MILKY WAY? FROM OUT HERE?” [Uncontrolled giggling] “IT’S A SWIRLY THING!” [Chorus — wider, faster, harmonized Vocaloid voice] FAR OUT, MAN! Higher than I understand! FAR OUT, MAN! I can’t even see where home began! Round and round, then away I go— How far is far? I wanna know! [MOVEMENT IV — THE LOCAL GROUP] [Elastic polyrhythms; fragmented synth-funk; playful glitchy vocal loops] “Andromeda! Hi! Hiii!” “Are we neighbors? Are we…?” [Snickering] “Wait, what’s a neighbor in SPACE?” A group of groups of groups of— “Pfft! Hahahaha!” “No, listen. I had a POINT.” “It’s all these little… little…” “Galaxi-laxi… galax—” [Burbling, pitch-bent laughter] “Heeheehee—brrr-brrr—waaaah!” “Why is everything so FAR?!” “And why is there SO MUCH OF IT?!” [Extended instrumental break; rhythm tumbles into silence] [MOVEMENT V — THE COSMIC WEB] [Almost weightless ambience; soft vocal over distant crystalline harmonics] “Oh…” “Those lights…” “They aren’t stars.” “They’re galaxies…” “And they’re all hanging on…” “…threads?” [Slow, immense synth chords bloom; galaxy filaments stretch into the cosmic web] “Look at that.” “Look how far it goes.” [Quietly, lucid for the first time in a while] “All those faces I could wear…” “All the lives they dreamed for me…” “And we’re… somewhere in there.” [Silence] “I’m Infinity.” “…And I’m so small.” [Breath; an astonished little laugh] “Heh… hehehe…” “I’m so, so small.” “…It’s beautiful.” [Final reprise — opening motif becomes a vast euphoric progressive-rock crescendo] FAR OUUUT, MAAAAN! So much more than I could understand! FAR OUUUT, MAAAAN! A speck of light in a cosmic strand! Higher and higher, beyond what I know— And smaller and smaller the farther I go! [Wordless synthetic soprano, widening into cathedral-like harmonies; final chord] [Silence] [Almost whispering; delighted] “…I only ate the corner.” [End]
