Verse 1 In the darkness of the temple hall, A little boy heard Heaven call. "Samuel, Samuel!" through the night, God was speaking, shining light. Eli listened, old and worn, A prophet's voice was being born. The word of God would shake the land, By the power of His mighty hand. Pre-Chorus The ark was taken, the people cried, Yet God was faithful through the tide. No idol stands, no power remains, The Lord forever reigns! Chorus We wanted a king, we wanted a crown, Someone to lift us up, never let us down. But the Lord was our King from the very start, Yet we traded His throne for a warrior's heart. Through victories and failures, through glory and pain, God's sovereign hand forever remains. From Samuel's call to David's name, The Lord of Hosts still reigns! Verse 2 Saul stood tall above the crowd, Strong and fearless, proud and loud. Chosen king with oil and grace, But pride would lead him from God's face. He spared the spoil, ignored the word, The voice of God he barely heard. Then Samuel spoke with grieving eyes, "Obedience is the sacrifice." Pre-Chorus A kingdom gained, a kingdom lost, The weight of sin reveals its cost. No earthly strength can save the day, When hearts have turned away. Bridge Out in the fields where the sheep would roam, God was preparing a shepherd for the throne. Not by stature, not by might, But by a heart that sought His light. A giant stood and mocked the skies, Fear was written in Israel's eyes. But a shepherd boy with a sling and stone Trusted God and God alone! Guitar Solo Final Chorus We wanted a king, we wanted a crown, Someone to lift us up, never let us down. But the Lord was our King from the very start, And He still rules every human heart. Through prophets and kings, through mercy and flame, His covenant promises never change. From Samuel's call to David's fame, The Lord of Hosts still reigns! Outro Samuel called... Saul would fall... David rose when God would call... Through every age, through every land, History rests in the Father's hand. Yeah! The Lord of Hosts still reigns! The Lord of Hosts still reigns!
