[Intro - pedal steel and acoustic guitar] [Verse 1 - warm storytelling] It was a warm night in July When the whole world rearranged Held my breath out in that hallway Then I heard him cry my fears away Seven pounds of something holy Wrapped in cotton, wide awake And his mama, Lord, his mama Strongest heart You ever made [Chorus - big singalong] Silas is his name Like the man who sang through midnight Silas is his name Till the prison walls gave way So when this life gets heavy, son You sing it anyway Silas is his name [Verse 2 - storytelling] Now there's tiny boots by our front door That won't fit for years to come And I'm already talking fishing trips He's barely three days old But time, they say, is a river And rivers run downhill fast So I'm memorizing every breath Trying to make the small days last [Chorus] Silas is his name Like the man who sang through midnight Silas is his name Till the prison walls gave way So when this life gets heavy, son You sing it anyway Silas is his name [Bridge - stripped, just guitar] One day you'll drive off down this road With the radio up loud And I hope whatever's playing Reminds you what we're singing now [Final chorus - key change, full band] Silas is his name Like the man who sang through midnight Silas is his name Till the prison walls gave way So when this life gets heavy, son You sing it anyway Silas is his name [Outro - pedal steel fades] Yeah, Silas is his name
