[Verse 1] July sun on the page Ink dries, then it changes A room full of brave hands Big risks, small tables Quills scratch, hearts race One voice, then a dozen They knew what it cost Still they chose the oven Not for gold, not for fame Just a life they could claim For the kids yet to come For the names not the chains They passed that paper down Like a spark in the dark And the whole world heard When the future got marked [Pre-Chorus] Hold up, listen close Feel that drumline roll One brave step Can wake a whole nation’s soul [Chorus] Freedom on the Fourth Freedom on the Fourth One bold day And it opened every door Freedom on the Fourth Freedom on the Fourth Say it so they know We remember what it’s for [Verse 2] From the island he came Alexander in rain Left Nevis and St. Croix Chased a ship and a name Wrote his way into rooms Took the war to the shore Aid to George Washington Then he led on the floor Lafayette crossed seas Left a title and throne French blood in the cause Fought for rights to be known Burr stood watching it all Law and office in play Jefferson with the pen Drafted words for that day They were building a start Out of fear and fire With a hand on the work And a hand lifting higher So when we sing it now Let it land, let it stay One country found its name On an unforgettable day [Pre-Chorus] Hold up, listen close Feel that drumline roll One brave step Can wake a whole nation’s soul [Chorus] Freedom on the Fourth Freedom on the Fourth One bold day And it opened every door Freedom on the Fourth Freedom on the Fourth Say it so they know We remember what it’s for [Bridge] One, two, three, four Count the cost, count the score Five, six, seven, eight They kept pushing more Washington took command Led the fight, led the stand Hamilton shaped the funds Built the nation’s new plan Not perfect, not done Just the start of the run But the words hit the sky And the long road begun [Final Chorus] Freedom on the Fourth Freedom on the Fourth One bold day And it opened every door Freedom on the Fourth Freedom on the Fourth Say it so they know We remember what it’s for
