Halo on Loan

+ Show full styles

[Intro]
They always said I was the evil one.
Funny… I just never learned to polish my halo.

[Verse 1]
Same eyes, same nose, but she wears the light like it’s rent-free
Bakes scones for the neighbours at half past three
Says “oh it’s nothing” while they take the whole damn pie
I just stand there — and suddenly I’m the bad guy

[Pre-Chorus 1]
She’s got a gold medal in graceful defeat
I’ve got a quiet talent for staying on my feet

[Chorus 1]
I’m the evil twin, that’s the story they own
But she’s strutting round town with a halo on loan
Too nice, too bright, too scared to rock the boat
I’m the teeth, I’m the spark, I’m the one who won’t choke
Why am I the villain when she’s the one wearing the coat?

[Verse 2]
She lets her ex crash till the fridge starts to judge
Then acts shocked when I chuck his keys in the sludge
Calls me icy for switching the lights off at ten
While she’s busy folding their laundry again and again

[Pre-Chorus 2]
She collects thank-yous like vintage champagne
I collect my nights and I keep my own name

[Chorus 2]
I’m the evil twin, that’s the story they own
But she’s strutting round town with a halo on loan
Too nice, too bright, too scared to rock the boat
I’m the teeth, I’m the spark, I’m the one who won’t choke
Why am I the villain when she’s the one wearing the coat?

[Bridge]
She thinks kindness means never running out of yes
I think kindness means knowing when to say “not my mess”
She apologises to the air for taking up room
I look the mirror dead on and say
“Cheers love — keep the costume, it looks better on you”

[Final Chorus]
I’m the evil twin, let the record be shown
She’s the one out here shining with a halo on loan
Too nice, too bright, too scared to rock the boat
I’m the teeth, I’m the spark, I’m the one who won’t choke
I’m the evil twin…
Yeah, I’m the evil twin… and I sleep like a stone

[Outro]
Funny how they always pick the wrong sister.
One day they’ll notice the halo was never really hers.
