[Intro] [Verse 1] My buddy’s got a boat that cost a hundred grand He spends half his weekends stuck on dry land Chasing down a wire or a broken screen Fixing up a brand-new, high-tech machine Me, I got a twelve-foot scratch of metal and wood That don't look like much but it runs real good It slides right in when the sun goes low And it gets me everywhere I want to go [Chorus] Give me a basic truck that cranks up every time A little spot of shade beneath a taller pine A glass that doesn't leak, a fire that doesn't die And a local girl who loves me and don't ever lie Yeah the world is buying things they can't afford to keep Chasing after promises that always come cheap But you can keep your neon lights and silver screen I’ll take a little scratch of metal over the new machine [Verse 2] Got a pair of old boots that are split at the seam But they fit my feet better than a rich man's dream They don't look like much walking down the street But they keep the gravel from biting at my feet Yeah, my phone’s got a crack right across the face But it still calls my mama from any damn place Don't need a golden watch to tell me it's late When the sun goes down, I'm swinging the gate [Chorus] Give me a basic truck that cranks up every time A little spot of shade beneath a taller pine A glass that doesn't leak, a fire that doesn't die And a local girl who loves me and don't ever lie Yeah the world is buying things they can't afford to keep Chasing after promises that always come cheap But you can keep your neon lights and silver screen I’ll take a little scratch of metal over the new machine [Bridge] Let the high-rollers chase the next best thing And spend their whole lives on a golden ring I'm doing just fine right where I'm at With a cold glass of ditch-water under my hat [Chorus] Give me a basic truck that cranks up every time A little spot of shade beneath a taller pine A glass that doesn't leak, a fire that doesn't die And a local girl who loves me and don't ever lie Yeah the world is buying things they can't afford to keep Chasing after promises that always come cheap But you can keep your neon lights and silver screen I’ll take a little scratch of metal over the new machine [Outro] Yeah, a little scratch of metal... Over the new machine... [End]
