The Caustic Bastion (Ormr of Vopnafjörður)

V6

Beneath the rolling brine the royal sorcerer glides, A shape-spun whale upon the cold Atlantic tides. Sent by the Danish throne to sound the eastern bay, To map the stony fjords and pave an empire's way. He breaks the quiet swell, seeking an open shore, Unaware the bedrock watches what he journeys for. No fleet shall anchor in this bay! No crown shall take this realm away! The living rock defends its own, A sovereign breath... CARVED DEEP IN STONE! CARVED DEEP IN STONE! The basalt ridges shift, the scree begins to slide, A shudder cracks the cliffs above the freezing tide. From deep within the roots where ice and magma crawl, The titan wakes to answer the invader's call. No mortal shield or steel, no standard of a king, The mountain’s living spine begins its harrowing. THE ORMR CRAWLS DOWN THE VALLEY FLOOR! A CHILLING WRATH TO SLAM THE SHORE! WEARING THE HELM OF ANCIENT DREAD, THE LIVING CRAG WHERE TITANS BRED! GUARDIAN OF AUSTURLAND, UNTAMED AND FREE, HE DROWNS THE INVADING STRANGER— IN THE SEA!! IN THE SEA!! Down to the gravel flats the armored bulk descends, A crawling serpent-host where every mercy ends. The vipers and the toads slough forward at his side, Exhaling boiling bile across the surging tide. No fire scorches air, but caustic, burning sleet, That melts the sorcerer's skin and turns his spell to fleet. Blinded by searing mists, his phantom skin undone, The whale retreats in terror from the rising sun. He flees the jagged coast, he breaks the bloody foam, To warn his gathered lords they have no harbor home. The fjord remains unbreached, untamed by foreign crown, Where ancient sovereign beasts cast every fleet back down. The bay is quiet. Austurland..... REMAINS UNBROKEN!!
