Who me? KiMY K... You knew that already... But here? Desolation... lead vocalist, and front woman for the Fifth Horseman. You've met the others... Dane wants to know what you'll fight for. Elias wants to know what you can live without. Mira wants to know what you'll spread. Naomi wants to know what you'll do with the time you have. Me? I only have one question. What happens to you... when all of this stops working? You wake inside a choreography you never rehearsed and every part lands on cue: heat in the room, pressure through tube, freight on route, cold chain cool, data moves, doors unlock... invisible hands making visible ease before you've even found your shoes. Clean little ritual. Digital miracle. Tap, confirm, receive. Easy gets eerie when easy gets expected. Do it daily, call it normal, normal turns natural, natural turns permanent and habit whispers of course. Of course the lift comes. Of course the card clears. Of course the map knows. Of course the medicine stayed cold. Of course. Tiny phrase. Heavy promise. Then "of course" becomes "why isn't it?" and watch the rhythm flip. First inconvenience, then impatience, then accusation ricochets room to room because somebody was supposed to keep reality on schedule. Mm. There you are. Building's yours, wiring isn't. Account's yours, ledger isn't. City says home while its lifelines run under concrete, behind steel, through rooms you pass every day. Competence disappears inside consistency. So pull one pair of hands. Just one. Dispatcher misses a window, maintenance misses a warning, relay runs hot, pump loses prime, shipment loses time... small fault, soft halt, barely worth the call. Then it travels. Late turns missing. Missing turns scarce. Scarce turns precious. Precious gets guarded. Guarded gets fought for. Dane, there's yours. Mira, look how pretty yours spreads. Elias already sees the appetite waking up. Naomi hears the clock before anybody else hears ticking. And me? I'm watching the chain introduce itself. Desolation isn't the blast. It's the lag. That thin little gap between command and answer where everybody looks up at once because the expected thing... didn't. That's where I live. Need and delivery. Demand and capability. "Somebody handles that" meeting "which somebody?" Let the network go quiet. Not forever. Long enough. Contacts become names you can't reach, route becomes memory, money becomes a promise behind a machine, refrigerator becomes a countdown, and every outsourced skill comes home collecting interest. Can you read a room when the screen can't? Find north when the arrow disappears? Make something useful from what is actually here? Keep your head when everybody else's fear starts setting prices? Don't answer pretty. Answer true. Everybody rehearses response, response, response: swipe here, press there, follow prompt, accept terms, next step, next step, next step. Failure doesn't give you a next step. Failure gives conditions. And conditions couldn't care less what usually works. Maybe you're ready. Maybe the neighbor you never named knows what to do. Maybe the kid downstairs can fix what nobody else can. Maybe the old woman across the hall stored knowledge while everybody else stored passwords. Maybe collapse exposes each other first. See, dependency doesn't bother me. Dependency is honest. It's the fantasy of being self-contained that gets dangerous. Every person stands on hands they'll never shake. Every city is agreements wearing concrete for a costume. Every ordinary morning is strangers keeping promises. Beautiful, really. Terrifying once you notice. I don't need a burning skyline. Give me one ordinary morning where enough promises miss their mark at the same time... and watch "normal" become a word for yesterday. That's my question. Not whether the world ends. Whether you recognize yourself when the world stops carrying your weight. When nothing answers for you... what answers from you?
