Italian Lessons (The Grand Tour S01E11)

[Intro] (Traditional Scottish bagpipe melody playing, suddenly interrupted by a fast Celtic rock guitar riff and pounding drums) [Verse 1] The mist is rolling heavy o'er the deep and lonely lake At the shores of Loch Ness, a brand new stage they make The Scottish fans are cheering in the damp and chilly air While the trio talks of foreign cars and breakdown deep despair [Verse 2] They say that modern supercars are getting way too clean They want to find the passion in an old and cheap machine Ten thousand pounds the budget for an old Italian dream To see which rusted sportscar has the best and loudest scream [Verse 3] Jeremy is driving with a look of wealthy pride A Maserati Biturbo, black and mean and wide It has an analog clock inside, and leather on the seat But underneath the bonnet, it is heading for defeat [Verse 4] And Richard chooses sunshine, an open-top design A classic Fiat 124 Spider, looking very fine He thinks he looks like Elvis as he drives along the track But the electrical systems are already fighting back [Verse 5] But James is the most stylish, in a racing red design An Alfa GTV that has a very broken line The dashboard lights are flashing like a Christmas tree tonight And the gearbox is so heavy that he has to shift with might [Verse 6] They travel down to France to test the engineering prime Across the winding country roads, racing against time But early in the morning, before the sun can rise The Maserati's battery is filled with bad surprises [Verse 7] It will not start, it will not crank, the cables must come out Jeremy is cursing, and the others start to shout The fine Italian luxury is breaking down right there Leaving the big presenter in a state of deep despair [Verse 8] They reach a muddy racetrack to see what they can do To test the handling limits of the red and black and blue The Alfa slides around the bend, the Fiat spins its tire While Maserati's engine sounds like burning smoky fire [Verse 9] Then Hammond loses control and drives into the grass The fiberglass is breaking as the other two cars pass He tries to fix the bumper with some heavy-duty tape An ugly looking plaster on a beautiful old shape [Verse 10] They have to do a challenge to prove the cars are neat To drive them through a tiny town and park upon the street The streets are way too narrow, the mirrors start to smash The locals stand and watch them with a terrifying crash [Verse 11] Jeremy gets stuck completely between two ancient walls He cannot move the Maserati, no matter how he calls The clutch is burning heavily, the smoke is filling high Under the beautiful and clear French summer sky [Verse 12] And James May has a problem with his brakes that do not grip He rolls into a garbage bin upon his little trip The cheap Italian experiment is turning into mud With three presenters crying tears of dirty engine blood [Verse 13] Back inside the Loch Ness tent, the crowd is laughing loud At how they ruined historic towns and shocked the foreign crowd They look at all the lap times and the damage on the board Concluding that these broken cars can never be restored [Verse 14] The discussion turns to monsters that swim inside the lake And all the silly theories that the crazy tourists make Jeremy is certain that the monster is quite real Probably an old design of British Leyland steel [Verse 15] In Celebrity Brain Crash, the Scottish star is near Sir Chris Hoy is walking, the fans begin to cheer But just before the studio, a monster from the deep Eats him in a single bite while the viewers start to weep [Verse 16] The eleventh track is fading, the bagpipes play their tune The traveling circus will be moving very soon From cheap Italian breakdowns to the Scottish winter grey The Grand Tour truck is packing up to find a highway new [Verse 17] So play the Celtic rock tonight and let the drums beat loud The Loch Ness pub rock special has left a happy crowd Three presenters bickering about a broken gear The grandest tour is moving on, the finale's drawing near [Outro] (Fast energetic Celtic rock guitar solo, bagpipes screaming high, big drum finale crashing, fading out with the sound of a sputtering car engine)
