Forty-Two Ways to Play [D4×D6] (NDC-Bingo Mix)

[Intro] [Banjo and mandolin establish a warm melodic theme — then EDM pulse weaves underneath] [Verse 1] Today I turned forty-two Which means something, I'm fairly sure I've been sitting here since half past three Designing a game nobody asked for It starts with a card Or possibly a die Or a philosophical paradox Dressed up as a question why But the question is the answer And the answer is the game And the game is just the question So we're back where we began [Pre-Chorus] [Melody lifts, banjo and synth together] Forty-two possibilities Forty-two ways to be wrong Forty-two rules for a game That I haven't invented yet But I'm getting there [Chorus] [Full melody, EDM pulse and banjo in harmony] Play the card or roll the die Ask the question, wonder why If the answer's forty-two Then the game was always true Round and round and round we go Where it stops nobody knows But it's my birthday and I say There are forty-two ways to play [Verse 2] Option one — a single card That means everything or nothing The player decides which But only after drawing Option two — a six-sided die Except with seven sides The seventh side is blank Which counts as forty-two Option three — no cards, no die Just a room and a question And whoever laughs first Has either won or lost I haven't decided [Pre-Chorus] Forty-two possibilities Forty-two ways to be wrong Forty-two rules for a game That keeps changing while I write it But I'm getting there [Chorus] Play the card or roll the die Ask the question, wonder why If the answer's forty-two Then the game was always true Round and round and round we go Where it stops nobody knows But it's my birthday and I say There are forty-two ways to play [Bridge] [Melody at its fullest — banjo, mandolin, synth all together, slightly psychedelic] Maybe the game is that there is no game Maybe the rules are that there are no rules Maybe forty-two is just a number That sounds right when you say it at midnight On your birthday Alone With a pen and a very serious notebook Maybe the real game Was the questions we asked along the way [Instrumental break — melody soars, psychedelic and warm] [Verse 3] I've filled fourteen pages now The rules keep contradicting themselves Which might be the point Or might be the problem Or both Which is also a rule The paradox of a perfect game Is that playing it proves it's flawed The paradox of a perfect question Is that answering it removes the mystery So perhaps the game is to keep asking And the winning condition is Never quite arriving [Final Chorus — full and warm, slightly slower] Play the card or roll the die Ask the question, wonder why If the answer's forty-two Then the game was always true Round and round and round we go And it's beautiful not knowing On my birthday I can say I found forty-two ways to play [Outro] [Melody fades slowly, banjo last] I'll figure out the rules tomorrow Or maybe the day after Forty-two is a very good age for not quite finishing things [Single banjo note] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A philosophical comedy about a philosopher celebrating their 42nd birthday by attempting to invent a game based entirely on the number 42 — and failing to make any decisions whatsoever. Cards or dice? A paradox as rule or as answer? Seven sides on a six-sided die where the blank side counts as 42? The game keeps changing, the rules keep contradicting themselves, and the notebook fills with fourteen pages of beautiful indecision. A strong melodic theme runs through the whole piece, weaving EDM pulse and psychedelic Newgrass banjo and mandolin together into something warm and slightly unhinged. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Bingo Board — 2026 [A1] GoGo × Shame [B1] Klezmer × Thirst [C1] Mongolian Throat Singing × Entropy [D1] Instrumental Only × Aerobics [E1] Native American Flute × Democracy [F1] Hopera × Mushroom / Fungi [A2] Rap × Nature [B2] Delta Blues × Dark Ages [C2] Grand Country × Uplifting [D2] Motown × Awakening [E2] Surf Rock × Surrealism [F2] Accordion × Train Hopping [A3] Chap Hop × Muscle Flex [B3] Witch House × Shed Your Burden [C3] Ska × Conflict [D3] Cyberpunk × Transmittable [E3] Groove Metal × Gnomes [F3] Wonky × Ice Cream [A4] Yacht Rock × Love [B4] Screamo × Bubblegum [C4] Fado Phonk × Africa Language [D4] Electronic Dance × 42 [E4] R&B Funk × Banana Split [F4] Skweee × Dating [A5] Lo-fi Indie Pop × Cheating Death [B5] Krautgaze Drone Rock × Heartbreak [C5] Balkan Folk × Transformation [D5] NeoFolk × Hardship [E5] Classical Music × Bird [F5] Alternative Rock × Courage [A6] Harpsichord Symphonic Metal × Faith [B6] Vocal Only / Acapella × Hope [C6] Ballad × Seduction [D6] Psychedelic Newgrass × Philosophy [E6] Yodeling × High Fantasy [F6] Punkrock × Awkward Fathers ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ © 2026 Ande Records Lyrics by Ande All rights reserved. https://ande-records.se/
