What Do You Mean Track Titles Can't Be Three Paragraphs Long? (WIP)
[Intro] I don't miss you. That's the problem. [Verse 1] Met somebody nice last Friday, good laugh, good teeth, good taste, said all the right things in the right order, and I still found something out of place. She touched my hand across the table, I watched myself compare the pressure, like you've been gone for half a lifetime but somehow kept the fucking measure. I don't want your number. I don't want your key. I don't want another rerun of whatever you called me. But everybody after gets examined for your crimes, and I'm starting to think moving on is just changing suspects over time. [Pre-Chorus] You aren't the one that got away. You got away. That's different. I just hate that every doorway since still looks a little like your exit. [Chorus] I don't want you back, I want you out of everyone else. Out of the way they kiss, out of the way they smell, out of the way I catch myself checking if they hurt me half as well. I don't want your love. I don't even want your name. I just want one night with somebody new without you winning anyway. [Verse 2] He's got better taste in records, she's got better jokes than you, they've got cleaner hands, clearer plans, and fewer ways to split me into two. And that's somehow worse. Congratulations. You lowered every bar then taught my body how to miss the exact shape of the scar. I've had softer beds, better mornings, more honest mouths against my skin, but familiarity is filthy magic, and yours keeps sneaking back in. You weren't perfect. That's revision. You were chaos with good lighting. Now I'm ruining good people because peace isn't as exciting. [Pre-Chorus] No, I don't still love you. Don't flatter yourself. I just hate how memory keeps your fingerprints better than I ever kept myself. [Chorus] I don't want you back, I want you out of everyone else. Out of the way they kiss, out of the way they smell, out of the way I catch myself checking if they hurt me half as well. I don't want your love. I don't even want your name. I just want one night with somebody new without you winning anyway. [Post-Chorus] You're not my favorite. You're just first place in a contest I forgot to cancel. [Verse 3] I tried lowering expectations. Turns out they live underground. Tried raising my standards. You'd be amazed how quickly those come down. Every stranger gets your shadow without ever seeing your face, and every decent thing they offer gets compared against your worst days. That's not romance. That's muscle memory with terrible PR. I don't think you're irreplaceable. I think replacement is a stupid place to start. So if I ever call you late, don't mistake it for devotion. Sometimes drowning people reach for whatever caused the ocean. [Bridge] Maybe someday somebody touches me and nothing echoes back. Maybe someday a kiss is just a kiss and not forensic evidence from the past. Maybe someday I'll stop grading every heartbeat on your curve. Until then, you can keep being gone. You've already taken more than you deserve. [Break] I don't miss you. I miss not knowing what missing you felt like. [Final Chorus] I don't want you back, I want you out of everyone else. Out of every almost, every maybe, every body I convince myself might help. I don't want your love. I don't even want revenge. I just want somebody good without wondering how you'd compare to them. I don't want you back. God, that would almost make this sane. I just want one night with somebody new where you don't win a game you aren't even playing. [Outro] You're over. I'm over you. Apparently those are two different things.
