You Beneath the Umbrella, You Beyond the Tower
灵感歌曲: 《宿命错位》—霸道总裁法海大师 https://suno.com/song/6dc05438-8c83-4c14-88e3-b9db6b969dff 《衣袂凡尘》—软饭王许汉文 https://suno.com/song/63fd6f17-a3c1-4ff0-b489-0d7791b3177a ******************************************* This song was inspired by *Misaligned Destiny*, the domineering Master Fahai, and *Robes Amid Mortal Dust*, the freeloader Xu Hanwen. Together, these two songs led me to imagine another version of the White Snake legend: what if Fahai and Xu Xian were the same person? For thirty lifetimes, he prayed before the Buddha for one wish: to lay aside his spiritual powers, become an ordinary mortal, and share one lifetime of true love with her. The Buddha granted his wish. A fragment of his soul entered the mortal world and became Xu Xian. But Fahai, who remained at Jinshan Temple, forgot what he had asked for. And so, in the same rain at Broken Bridge, one welcomed her beneath an umbrella while the other turned away in bitterness. He watched her fall in love with that mortal and risk her life for him, until he built thirty lifetimes of longing into Leifeng Pagoda. Only when the pagoda doors closed, and the two halves of the red thread joined in his palm, did Bai Suzhen understand: the man who had loved her tenderly and the man who had imprisoned her shared a single soul. Through the closed doors, she called to him softly: “Fahai, you were never too late. The one who held the umbrella for me that day was you, too.” Love and hatred have their roots; meetings and partings unfold through karmic ties. Yet even when a trial is destined, the path beyond it still depends on the choices we make in this life. When he finally sets down the lock, she is willing to call him Master. Beneath the quiet lamplight, they will each face their own karma and accompany one another through the spiritual journey still ahead. ********Lyrics******** [Intro] In the book of fate, there was only one name. You crossed the River of Oblivion thirty-six times… Yet forgot—the man beneath that umbrella was you. [Verse 1] Half a crimson thread within your palm Kept thirty lifetimes warm The other half wound round his fingers Beneath that old umbrella in the storm You learned to read the will of heaven Yet could not recognize your face You foresaw the rain on Broken Bridge But not one soul in two men’s place I came into this world of mortals With an old dream and a debt to bear How could I know the man beside me And the monk were one love torn in pairs? [Pre-Chorus 1] This was more than rain that caught us unaware He was more than just a mortal seeking shelter there You once prayed to meet me With a mortal heart anew But forgot, upon descending That his soul had come from you [Chorus] Did you know those thirty lives of longing Never lost to someone else? Did you know the love you begged of heaven Bloomed beneath the rain you held? Clothed in gold, you cursed the man Who had my promise and my life Never knowing your forgotten heart Was beating when he called me wife Oh, Fahai Do not let your rage eclipse The love still burning deep inside You were never late that rainy day You forgot you had arrived! [Verse 2] You stood between me and the thunder He brushed frost from off my sleeve You prayed through sleepless nights to save me He kept warm clothes waiting there for me He saw my serpent form and fled in fear You saw my love for him and came undone Even one heart breaks in different ways When fear divides that heart in two Like a river, karma mirrored All the sorrow in your eyes One feared losing me forever One feared love would claim his life [Pre-Chorus 2] I let waters rise through Jinshan And the innocent were swept away With your eyes aflame, you hid Your other self where monks would pray Then the tower doors fell shut Two crimson threads became one line And I knew the man you hated Had your soul, your heart, your life! [Chorus] Did you know those thirty lives of longing Never lost to someone else? Did you know the love you begged of heaven Bloomed beneath the rain you held? All the love I owed Xu Xian Led me back to you again You once held an umbrella for me Then you locked me in this den Oh, Fahai Do not turn the pain of yesterday To chains around another life What tomorrow brings of joy or sorrow Starts with what we choose tonight! [Bridge] You raised Leifeng Tower round me Every stone still bears a scar When you closed those doors upon me You imprisoned your own wandering heart When that mortal soul returns Let both lives awaken in your breast Own the kindness of the shelter And the cruelty of my long arrest Open up these doors and free me I will learn beside your flame As your pupil, walk this lifetime Each to heal the wounds that still remain [Outro] Awaken, Fahai… The hand that held the umbrella also raised the bowl. When you lay that lock aside… Master… let our practice start with this one thought.
