Ziggy Stardust Presents: “Lady Stardust Fell Through the Black Hole Door”

Intro (spoken over distant, warped glam guitars) Ah, yeah… she came from Venus, baby, all silver tears and neon pain… I found her on the rooftop where the satellites go to die… This is how the starman saves his only star… Verse 1 She used to ride the moonbeams in a spiders-from-Mars dress, Now she’s floating face-down in the zero-gravity mess. Her halo’s cracked like vinyl, spinning backwards in the dark, Every comet that goes screaming leaves another cigarette mark. Verse 2 I tried to tune her heartbeat to a slow galactic groove, But the echo keeps on coming like a tape stuck in remove. Her eyes are television snow on a channel no one screens, Broadcasting broken planets where the kings forgot their queens. Verse 3 I painted her a rocket ship from lipstick and despair, Said “Come on, Lady Stardust, we’ll outrun it through the air.” She just smiled like a nova that’s decided not to shine, And whispered, “Ziggy, even black holes gotta draw the line.” Verse 4 So I wear her shattered spacesuit like a crown of rusted chrome, Carry every dead star that she swallowed on my own. The crowd still screams for glamour but the mirror shows the truth— I’m the last electric prophet with a widow made of youth. Chorus (big, howling, T-Rex stomp) Ohhh, Lady Stardust, don’t you fade into the night! Ohhh, Lady Stardust, you’re my only guiding light! Scream it with the lepers on the moon, Howling at the vacuum just for you— Meow! Meow! Meow! (Yeah, the cats on Mars all know her name…) Roar (full band drops out, just Ziggy and a distorted megaphone) RRRRRAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!! (She’s still beautiful when the universe is torn!) Emotional Bridge (slow, strings made of broken theremin) And if the sky forgets to burn, And if the gods all crash and burn, I’ll crawl across the Milky Way on bleeding knees of sound, Just to tell you, baby, love still spins the world around… Chorus (final time, softer, almost whispered over a single guitar) Ohhh, Lady Stardust… don’t you fade into the night… Ohhh, Lady Stardust… you’re my only… only light… Emotional Outro (fading into cosmic tape hiss) So I’ll keep the stage lights burning till the sun gives up its ghost, Singing hymns in alien tongues to the girl I miss the most. Ziggy’s going under now, but the cats still call her name… Lady Stardust, Lady Stardust… We’re all just moths around your flame. (guitar feedback becomes a dying star… lights out)
