[⸿ Movement I: The Observation / Stirring the Silent Mind]

Look at that text ―

Notice who the psalmist is talking to?
He's not talking to God yet.
He isn’t talking ta the crowd.
He’s talking ta himself.

―There’s a world of difference―

Between letting your heart talk to you...

An' you ―

Talking to your heart.
(Talking to your heart........)

[⸿ Movement II: The Diagnosis / The Trap of Waiting on the Flesh]

Most days,
We sit quietly
And listen ―
While our heavy bones ―
(Heavy bones...)

Our tired minds ―
(Tired minds...)

And our shifting moods ―
(Shifting moods.....)

Tell us exactly how the mornin's gonna go.

We tell ourselves:
"I’ll pray ―
(I'll pray...)

When I feel the spark.|
|
I’ll sing ―
(I'll sing...)

When the weight lifts.|
|
I’ll draw near ―
(Draw near...)

When the air clears.|"

But if we linger at tha window
Waitin' for the frail flesh

To agree with the spirit,
Our devotion becomes a mere captive to the weather.

One morning the sun shines ―
	An' we're saintly;
(The next morning ―)

A cold wind blows through the porch,
	An' our altar

!GOES DARK!

[⸿ Movement III: The Exhortation / The Parable of the Drowning Man]

Now, Brother David —
	He understood the secret of
	Keeping his feelings
	From taking over...
	He knew if he let them
	They would drag him under
	In a flood of emotion
	Drowning him in despair

But like a drowning man —
	He had to consciously
	Take control
	So he spoke to his own soul
	Firmly

He commanded it to shake off
	It's overwhelming feelings of failure
	Loneliness
	And despair.

He had to strike the match to get the lamp burning
	'Till his soul wanted to Sing on it's own,

David didn’t wait for the shadows to clear before he stepped forward.
	 He looked into a pitch-black,
	(Pitch black.....)

Hesitant space
	(Hesitant space.....)

And struck the spark —

He commanded his inner being to: Rise!
	(Oh, my soul - Arise.....!)

Catch the fire,
	And illuminate the path ahead!
	And gave it an order ―

Oh! He commanded his inner being: Rise!
	(My soul - arise.....)

Shake off the dust,
And Bless the Lord!
	(Bless The LORD.....)

He commanded his weary soul to rise!
	(Oh, my soul - arise.....)

He spoke to his own soul like it was a gentle, stubborn brother:
	"We're not measurin' today
	By how we feel.

We are tetherin' today
	To WHO HE IS."
	(Who He Is...)

Jehovah!
	(Who He Is...)

Adonai!
	(Who He Is...)

Elohim!
	(Who He Is...)

[⸿ Movement IV: The Turning Point / Re-framing Adoration]

True adoration wasn't ever meant to mirror our moods.

It isn't a thermometer
Recording the temperature of the room;

It’s a fire lit in the middle of a winter night.
	(Winter night...)

It is holding up a small lantern
To the unchanging Goodness of the Master,
Even when your hands are trembling.
	(Trembling hands...)

[⸿ Movement V: The Call to Action / Speaking to the Quiet Spirit]

You don't need a holy feeling
	(Holy feeling...)

To offer a Holy Prayer.
	(Holy Prayer...........)

You just need to speak
To that quiet spirit inside you
And say...
	"Come now!!
	Rise up!!
	We have a Good God to thank!!"
	(Our Good God to Thank...)

(Hhmm-Mmm-Mmm-Hhhmnn.........)
