Silho of the Lantern Flame
[Verse 1] In ages past when stars still wept, As Gusty's winds through silence swept, There walked a colt with sorrowed name, Who bore the weight of love and flame. He lost her 'neath the willow’s cry, And cursed the gods who let her die, He fled the hearth, the hills, the kin— To lose the world he once lived in. [Chorus] A Silho, lóchrann san oíche, Le tine lag nó geal lasrach, Treoraíonn tú na caillte trí anáil scátha, Dóchas ag splancadh, bás na foraoise. [Verse 2] The spirits stirred, the darkness stirred, And whispered low a pitying word, A creature ancient, cold and wise, Bestowed a light in deathless guise. He wandered where the forest grew, Where tangled vines and dangers flew, And watched in stillness, never seen, The rise and fall of moonlight's queen. [Chorus] A Silho, lasair nach imíonn, Caoineann an fhoraois san áit ar fhan tú, Cé go n-imeoidh na céadta bliain thart, Tá do thine fós ag damhsa faoin spéir. [Bridge] (softly, with sorrow) He saw the sun bear mountain crown, And watched the mighty castle drown, He saw the roots of Apple’s line, Push back the dark, reclaim the vine. But still he roamed, a soul unclaimed, With silent steps, and heart untamed, Until a zebra’s hoof found grace, And joined the forest’s quiet pace. [Verse 3] A sage-green mare with silver mind, Came wandering the paths maligned, And Silho watched with embered eye, Protecting those who dared to try. But legends grew like moss and bone, They said he walks the dark alone, A ghost with lantern tail aglow— A blaze of mercy, none may know. [Cór Deiridh] A Shilho, treoraí na lasrach taibhsí, Cogarnaímid go bog d'ainm ársa, Go dtí go n-imíonn do sholas gorm go hiomlán, Agus go siúlann d'anam i dtreo na gréine.
