It arrived without wrapping No ribbons and no bows But once we had received it His wondrous Gift had brought us close A Gift unique in every aspect One we never could have known Except that we’d been brought together By Him who sits upon the throne Now it’s cloaked within a shroud But is it buried for all time? Hidden there behind a cloud Of sin whose making is all mine Can it really be forbidden For us to open it again? Our future has been hidden My fate is twistin’ in the wind Oh my God how I am longing For the Gift we once beheld The first sense of true belonging That my heart had ever felt As each lonely hour passes I fear that it is now too late Time has slowed to thick molasses And in its sticky mire I wait The nights are really rough As my mind replays the clips Is it meant to be enough To just have memories of the Gift? I know that God is Sovereign His Will is perfect and so True His rendered judgement solemn For I took the Gift too soon
