[Spoken Intro] I love the Book of Mormon. Especially the verses that tell other people to repent. [Verse 1] Pride? That’s for the wealthy folks. Costly clothes? Not mine. Trusting in the arm of flesh? Some other church, this time. “All is well in Zion”— That warning sounds severe. I hope whoever lives there Gets around to reading it this year. [Chorus] That verse was for somebody else; I’m certain it wasn’t me. The proud, the rich, the learned folks Are people I clearly see. I marked the warning carefully, Then put it on the shelf. The Book of Mormon cleared its throat: “My friend, apply it to yourself.” [Verse 2] Moro-nigh saw our latter days And said, “I know your doing.” I mailed his words to ancient folks Whose churches needed viewing. I held the sacred mirror up To help my neighbor see— Then Jesus turned it back around And pointed it at me. [Bridge] This isn’t shame or throwing stones; It’s mercy calling through: “Come unto Christ, repent, be changed— I wrote this book for you.” [Final Chorus] That verse may reach somebody else, But, Lord, what about me? Where is pride still hiding? What truth won’t I receive? I’ll open up the warning now And leave it off the shelf. The Book of Mormon cleared its throat: “My friend, begin with yourself.” [Spoken Outro] Return to sender? No. This one has my address.
