Well now... Daddy's gonna be proud tonight. Three nights without a proper human. Just beetles, possums and that screaming thing beneath the porch. A troll's got standards. A troll's got a family. And a troll's got a dinner table. Today I'll clear the yard. Critters, humans, wanderers... Anything with legs and poor judgment. ...Huh? What in the muddy moonlight... HUMAN! Look at him runnin' through my clover Thinkin' he can make it over Little red shoes and a frightened face Run, little human, you're on my place! He's got no map He's got no clue He's got no idea what a troll might do! Grab my boots! Grab my coat! Grab the thing that makes him choke! SISTER! WHAT?! GET THE FORK-SHOVEL! THE BIG ONE?! THE BIG ONE! OH, WE'RE HAVING COMPANY! Catch him! Catch him! Don't let that human go! Run, little human! Run, run, run! Everybody knows A troll runs faster down below! Fork-shovel in my hand Mud beneath my feet! Daddy's gonna love it When we bring him something sweet! WE'RE GONNA CATCH THAT HUMAN FOR THE FAMILY MEAT Over the stump! Around the tree! Why's that human faster than me? You should've eaten breakfast! I DID! You ate a bucket. IT WAS A BIG BUCKET! Down by the creek he's losing ground I hear his little footsteps pound He looks behind him— Hello, little man... He's turning left! I've got him! He's turning right! I've got him! He's on the roof! ...Oh. That's inconvenient. You can hide beneath the branches. You can crawl beneath the wagon. You can squeeze behind the shed... But this is troll country. Every stone knows my name. Every tree knows my smell. Every dinner plate knows your face. He's behind you. I know. No... I mean YOU. ...What? GET BACK HERE! Catch him! Catch him! He's getting away! Through the bushes! Across the hay! Over the barrel! THAT'S MY CHAIR! SORRY! CATCH HIM BEFORE THE END OF DAY! Daddy's got the table ready! Daddy's sharpening the knives! DADDY'S GONNA BE SO PROUD! I can smell him... Me too... I can hear him... Me too... FOUND HIM! COME BACK, LITTLE DINNER! DON'T LET HIM ESCAPE! I'M GONNA MAKE DADDY PROUD! ...Tomorrow, then. We'll have human tomorrow.
