I Actually Have Changed
Verse 1 I used to think I had the answers, Black and white on every page. Every rule was carved in stone, Every sinner judged the same. I measured people by my standards, Thought I knew what heaven saw. Looking back, now I realize I was wrong about it all. Pre-Chorus I wore certainty like armor, Never stopped to count the cost. Chorus I actually have changed, And I don’t apologize. I traded judgment for compassion, Opened up my eyes. I quit pretending I knew Every story, every scar. If becoming kinder means I’ve changed, Then I’ve come so very far. Yeah, I actually have changed. Verse 2 I used to call myself pro-life, Thought there was no other way. Lost a friend who needed kindness, ‘Cause I judged her anyway. Now I know kindness matters More than how I used to pray. I’d rather stand beside the hurting Than just turn and walk away. Bridge The truth I had to face Was that I could be wrong too. The strongest thing I’ve ever done Was changing what I knew. Compassion changed my compass, Empathy lit the way. I am ashamed of who I was… But I’m proud of who I am today. Final Chorus I actually have changed, And I don’t apologize. I traded fear for understanding, Opened up my eyes. I don’t need all the answers To see the worth in everyone. If becoming kinder means I’ve changed, Then I’m proud of who I’ve become. Yeah, I actually have changed. And I won’t go back to who I was.
