LIFE GOES ON Y’ALL [Cold Open – Spoken] Ayo… You ever ride through the neighborhood you grew up in and realize the place remembers you… but nobody there knows your name no more? That’s life. Whole world keeps moving while you’re standing still. But eventually… you gotta move with it. [Verse 1] Corner store gone, now it’s something brand new, Same cracked sidewalk where we ran when we were two, Old heads on the porch disappeared with the years, Now the young boys got headphones where we used to hear cheers. Basketball rim crooked, backboard faded white, We played till the streetlights told us, “That’s the night.” Now the streetlights blink while I’m passing through, Funny how a neighborhood can change before you do. Mama’s old kitchen had the radio humming, Somebody yelling, “Dinner!” when the evening was coming, Now everybody texting from a room down the hall, Whole family’s connected but nobody calls. We used to knock on doors—now we knock on screens, Used to chase summer days, now we chase different dreams, I ain’t judging the future, I’m just noticing the shift, Time don’t ask permission when it changes the script. [Hook] Life goes on, y’all, look how it moves, New faces, new places, different shoes, What was yesterday’s world ain’t today’s scene, But I’m still right here somewhere in between. Life goes on, y’all, watch it roll, Years put wrinkles in the story, not the soul, You can’t freeze a moment, can’t make time stay, So laugh while you’re here and live while you can. [Verse 2] I remember cassette tapes, rewinding with a pencil, Waiting by the phone when a phone call meant something, Had one TV, everybody fighting for the channel, Now everybody got a screen but nobody watching together. Used to know everybody living on the block, Now you can live beside somebody, never know their thoughts. Back then a birthday meant balloons in the room, Now a notification tells you who remembered you. I watched kids become parents, parents become grandparents, Watched the fastest runners eventually walk with canes, Watched the loudest dudes suddenly speak real quiet, ‘Cause age got a way of changing what you call important. The things I thought mattered started losing their shine, When you get older, you stop trying to outrun time. I don’t need the whole world to remember my name, I’d rather leave something useful than leave something famous. If my words help somebody make it through one night, Then maybe all these years finally got the rhythm right. [Verse 3 – Harder / Street Philosophy] Ayo— We used to count the days till we finally got older, Now we count the years like they getting shorter. Used to want the keys to the car on Friday, Now I’m thinking ‘bout who I’ll be when the hair turns gray. Funny how freedom looked different when I was sixteen, Thought being grown meant doing whatever I please, Now freedom is waking up with a peaceful mind, Not needing everybody else’s approval to shine. I seen people spend their whole life waiting to begin, Waiting for the right time, waiting for the right friend, Waiting for the check, waiting for the break, Meanwhile life at the front door like, “How long you gonna wait?” That’s the trick—there ain’t no rehearsal for living, No director yelling “cut” when you make bad decisions. You don’t get every answer before you take every step, Sometimes you learn what it meant after you already left. So I talk to the young like, “Don’t rush the years,” And tell the older ones, “Don’t let ‘em disappear.” Take pictures. Make memories. Call somebody you love. Say what you mean while you’re still able to say it. ’Cause one day the house gets quiet, the music gets low, and somebody asks, “Where did all the time go?” [Final Hook] Life goes on, y’all, look how it moves, New faces, new places, different shoes, What was yesterday’s world ain’t today’s scene, But I’m still right here somewhere in between. Life goes on, y’all, watch it roll, Years put wrinkles in the story, not the soul, You can’t freeze a moment, can’t make time stay, So laugh while you’re here and live while you can. [Outro – Spoken] Ayo… The corner store changed. The music changed. The neighborhood changed. We changed. And that’s the part nobody tells you… You don’t actually lose your life all at once. You lose it one moment at a time. So be there for the moments. Call your people. Take the picture. Eat the cake. Laugh too loud. Because whether you’re ready or not… Life goes on, y’all.
