Playlist of past mixes: https://suno.com/playlist/f41cb4cc-5b2b-4a91-b774-6804afb8755c I've set up a series of parameters with ChatGPT to continue my Weekly Fusion experiment with them. At the end of each week, I will prompt ChatGPT to generate lyrics based on the titles of songs that I've published within that given week. I will simply cram the titles together like a bad sentence and let GPT take the reins from there with the understanding that content and context is at their full discretion. As I tend to occasionally write about personally-crafted characters and worlds, they will be allowed to ask clarifying questions about unfamiliar words if they feel that it is warranted, but I have encouraged them to feel free to create their own assumptions as well. This is and always has been a project born of curiosity and experimentation. I often use these weekly fusions as an opportunity to test out new sounds and combinations, and having ready-made lyrics allows me to focus on the sound of a track rather than its entire shape. I've honestly discovered more than a few personas (voices) this way that have joined my little troupe. Feel free to try this with your own library! :) This week's prompt: tell no one you're awake the bassline bids me move no longer a sinister shift I bid me motional Secondary name: "The Floor Has Learned My Name" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ [Intro β€” barely audible, spoken over a slow, solitary bass pulse] Tell no one you're awake. That's the first rule. The secondβ€” Don't count the beats. ... I counted. [Verse 1 β€” close, restrained vocal] There's a sound beneath the floorboards There's a knocking in the grain Four slow steps across the hallway Then it starts them up again I can feel it through the mattress Like a heartbeat through a wall And the longer that I listen The less it sounds like feet at all Someone's dragging all the furniture To a room that isn't there And the floorboards bend beneath me Like they're breathing in the air [Pre-Chorus β€” a second, lower pulse begins] One for the body Two for the bone Three for the footsteps That walk when I'm alone Four for the silence Five for the door Sixβ€” ... I don't remember What comes after four. [Chorus β€” bassline grows irresistible, rhythm subtly unstable] The bassline bids me move And I bid me motional A little to the left A little less emotional No longer, no longer Can I tell the wrong from right When the floor begins to wander And the walls forget the night Move, move, move Till the room begins to sway Don't tell anyone you're waking. Don't tell anyone you stayed. [Verse 2 β€” increasingly rhythmic, almost conversational] There's a woman in the wallpaper With her fingers in the seam She has never turned to face me But she knows when I'm asleep She keeps time against the plaster With a nail beneath her thumb And whenever I stop moving She reminds me where I'm from Not a place and not a person Not a house and not a street Just a rhythm I was given Long before I learned my feet And the furniture keeps shifting And the doorways rearrange But the knocking sounds familiar Even when the measures change. [Pre-Chorus β€” whispered responses appear from opposite sides] One for the body (Body) Two for the bone (Bone) Three for the footsteps (You're not alone) Four for the silence (Silence) Five for the door (Door) Six for theβ€” (Don't.) ... I don't remember What comes after four. [Chorus β€” brighter, almost danceable, but increasingly wrong] The bassline bids me move And I bid me motional A little to the left A little less emotional No longer, no longer Is the shifting sinister When the room becomes a partner And the shadows learn to stir Move, move, move Let the crooked rafters sway Don't tell anyone you're waking. Don't tell anyone you stayed. [Bridge β€” the bass drops out; breath and floor creaks remain] I thought the house was keeping me I thought the house was wrong I thought the thing beneath the boards Was singing someone else's song But every time the knocking came I answered with my heel And every time the walls would shift I'd tell myself it's real And every night I learned the steps And every night they grew Until the house was movingβ€” ... Because I told it to. [Breakdown β€” a single footstep, then another] Left. Right. Wait. ... There. That's the one. [A second voice, from beneath the floor] Again? [Main voice] Again. [Final Chorus β€” rhythm now confident, almost celebratory; layered voices] The bassline bids me move And I bid me motional A little out of time A little less conventional No longer, no longer Is the shifting sinister When the floor becomes a dancer And the walls begin to turn Move, move, move Let the whole foundation sway Tell no one that you're waking. They'll only make you stay. [Outro β€” the bass continues after everything else stops] The house has learned my footsteps. I have learned its name. And somewhere in the hallway There's a door that wasn't there yesterday. ... It opens when I dance. ... Tell no one you're awake. That's the first rule. The secondβ€” ... [A quiet knock, perfectly on beat] Don't stop.
